  1. Hi, I have a pair of Fiberglass Caterham seats, made by Tillett I believe, that I'll be fitting to my Caterham, but in doing a quick pre-fit I find the driving position rather upright. Does anyone else find that? I'm ging to be making some wedges, for want of a better term to tilt the seat back by 15 degrees. This feels much more to mu likeing and with my height 5' 10" gives me more than enough leg length and still lines up well with the seat-back bulkhead. If anyone else feel the same I could make some extras . . Ian
  2. Hi, I am putting a Lotus Twin Cam and a Type 9 Transmission in my Caterham. The transmission has just arrived from the builder in the UK, beautiful job, and he also included the rear shaft coupling out of the box to the drive (prop) shaft. It has a rubber donut type joint on it. Is this the normal/prefered method of connecting the 'box to the driveshaft? Seems to me that a Hookes type joint would be preferable here. Just wondering if anyone has any experience or suggestions for the best set-up. Thanks, Ian
  3. Rain? Whats that? Ian SoCal
  4. Nitto NT01 tires on a Caterham? They look like 'the business' but any feedback would be helpfull Thanks, Ian
  5. Sorry, double post.
  6. Hi, We have just set the engine (Lotus Twin Cam) in place to fabricate the engine mounts and it appears to be in the correct position, height wise, with the top front edge of the cam cover just a little lower than the rear edge of the nose. However, the sumps appears to be too low, sticking out below the floor but at least a couple of inches. Is there a different sump that is generally used to help this problem? Thanks, Ian

  8. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has any build manuals or tech data on the JPE 7's that could be copied or scanned. I believe my car was originally a JPE car and I would like to see what it would take to put it back to that spec. Thanks Ian Ianashdown at pacific- composites dot net
  9. Im looking for any parts for a Caterham De Dion axle set-up, including: diff ( LSD?), driveshafts, end plates, A frame etc. Any parts welcome. Thanks, Ian Ianashdown at pacific-composites dot net
  10. Just wondering if anyone here was the lucky buyer of the 1962 Lotus 7 for sale in Las Vegas. http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/2905451106.html If you are, how about sharing some details? Ian
  11. Hi, I would think we would use 2x2 Twill which gives the weave pattern that you're looking for. If we lay it up at 0/90 degrees which gives the twill pattern at 45 degrees. It can be pointing away from the center or towards the center, your preference. It might be possible to make the mold with a spacer so that it could make both narrow and wide track. The other question is whether to make them from 100% carbon (light, strong but more expensive) or use carbon on the visable surfaces and glass fiber for the center plies (not as light, or strong and only moderately expensive!). Ian
  12. Hi, I have a pair of Clamshells that would be suitable for pulling a mold. I'm not sure if they are wide track or what they are. We would be able to make a few sets of carbon parts if there was some real interest. Check out our website. http://www.pacific-composites.net If there is interest we could start making the molds quite soon and parts would follow. Ian
  13. Hi Craig,

I'll go for the 4 fenders at $150. I have FedEx and UPS accounts so can cover shipping costs if you can pack them. How would you like me to pay you - Paypal?

    Thanks,

  14. Just wondering if anyone here uses an Engine Management System. I'm curious as to what others are using, how well it works etc. I'm thinking about putting FI and crank triggered ignition on a Lotus Twin Cam engine in a Caterham 7 I'm building. Any comments or suggestions will be very welcome. The main reason I'm thinking about this is not ultimate power, but drivability and the studid fuel that we are forced to use these days!! Thanks, Ian
  15. Hi Darrell, Could you send me, or post some pictures of the seats? Thanks, Ian
  16. Hi, I am considering a Caterham 7 that was a race car and is missing a few parts. My thought is to put a BDA that I have in it with Ford T9 transmission. Some of the things that are missing are Seats, Windscreen, Wheels, Tires, Hood, seat belts and a few other minor parts. Rather than pay to import some seats from Caterham to Southern California I thought I might try to find a seat that work in the 7 here in the US. Can anyone speak from experience as to what will fit and work etc. I think I'll need to get the windscreen from Caterham, wheels - I'd like some minilites or similar, Seatbelts - probably Willans or Sabelt, what would be a good tire to use for fast road and occasional Track day use? Any advice will be appreciated. Ian
