  2. Just checking back . . . Doesn't someone have a set of seat belt harnesses that they're not using (and never will)? Expired dates are OK . . . They just need to be in nice shape and black. Thank you! Alan in LA

  4. Forgot to mention that Checkpoint Automotive is in Mar Vista, near Venice Blvd & Centinela Ave.
  5. My good friend Steve Beck at Checkpoint Automotive is VERY familiar with these cars . . . Checkpoint is a BMW repair shop, but Steve owns a Caterham and takes care of several others in the area.On Saturday, August 1st, a number of us 7 owners are planning to go the Cars & Coffee in Palos Verdes.Alan
  6. Surfing the web, I see that Demon Tweeks carries Sabelt, Willans and Schroth harnesses for the Caterham, in escalating price points. The Schroth belts have their patented anti-submarining technology . . . Any experience with Demon Tweeks in general or these harnesses? Any thoughts on 2" or 3" lap belts? Alan in LA
  7. Mine are tattered and won't hold a setting . . . I'm looking for a nice set for an S-3 Caterham. Must be BLACK. Please PM me if you have a set. Thanks, guys! Alan in Los Angeles
  8. greetings! I've tried to search previous posts, with sketchy results (different engines, different chokes, etc), so here goes: after an engine fire, I bought and installed a set of brand new Weber carbs, with decent but not great results . . . without putting the car on a dyno and measuring the A/F ratio, I know for sure that I have a major stumble coming off idle, including after every gear change. for those of you with a 1700 Super Sprint running 30mm chokes, what are you running for mains, airs, idle and emulsion tubes? are there any other variables? thank you for your help! alan in West LA
  9. greetings! well, it's been a little over a year, and my Caterham is FINALLY back on the road . . . its maiden voyage was to the Queen's English British Car Show in the San Fernando Valley yesterday (Sunday). here she is in the middle of two other Caterhams, resplendant in her navy blue nose and fenders. a HUGE "thank you" again to all of you who sent me parts for the project. it was quite an ordeal, particularly the last-minute discovery that one of the tow truck drivers had bent and cracked my DeDion tube! all's well that ends well, i guess . . . meanwhile, with brand new Weber carbs, i need some help dialing them in. please see and respond to my General Tech post, if you have any advice. regards to all, alan in west LA
  10. "ratchet strap wheel baskets"? translation, please . . . and does this address the manner in which the car is dragged onto the flatbed? alan
  11. for background, please see my "Rear Wheel Alignment" post under General Tech. before I send away to the UK, please let me know if you have a new (or perfect) deDion tube lying around the garage. also, since I'm concerned about the A-Frame and Radius Arms (to be removed this weekend), please let me know if you have those parts, as well. many thanks! alan in Los Angeles
  12. OK, so i now have visual confirmation that the tube is bent on both ends, and I've concluded that this MUST have happened after the fire, when the car was being transported from the "scene of the crime," and then to my house, and then to the shop where we've doing the work. WORD TO THE WISE: carefully monitor exactly how your Seven is being tied down to a flatbed . . . indeed, if there is a preferred method, it should probably be the topic of another thread. MEANWHILE, does anyone have advice on where/how to get a replacement tube? i'll put a post under "Parts Wanted." also, should i be concerned that the forces which bent the tube may have also distorted the radius rods and/or the A-frame? any thoughts on this? alan
  13. dallas dude . . . what about the idea of having the tube straightend? . . . if necessary, where does one obtain a new tube? Caterham in the UK? is this the right one? http://caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=2588 again, thanks for the help . . . . alan
  14. is it possible that sitting on jack stands for 6 months could have bent the deDion tube?? say it ain't so . . .
  15. oh, and as long as we're here . . . my car also had more than 2 degrees of negative camber on each of the rear wheels . . . is this adjustable? if so, how? thank you again! alan
  16. shims? really? that's all it takes?
  17. greetings! you may remember my engine fire back in April of last year (read about it here: http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=8468) well, after a ton of work, today was the first day out of the garage and back out on the street. since i had to replace the entire front suspension, the first order of business was a front end alignment. to my surprise, the rear wheels have waaaayyyyy too much toe-in: an inch on the right side, and more than 1-5/8" on the left . . . yikes! how is this adjusted back to zero? the alignment shop didn't have a clue . . . please use small words, and pictures would be greatly appreciated. i didn't notice this issue before the fire, but i wasn't on the road very long. thanks in advance for your help! alan in LA
  18. i'll take the dual-screen set up . . . PM just sent. alan in los angeles
  19. Greetings and Happy New Year! I'm still putting things back together after my engine fire back in April. My wiper control box was rendered inop, so i got a new one from an eBay seller in the UK. on the left below is a big picture of the old one. to the right is a comparison shot, with the old one on the right and the new one on the left . . . see the difference? even though the printing on the box ("Lucas 6DA Wiper Control") is identical, the male and female pins are in different places . . . this is a problem, because my new wiring harness will not attach to the new one (obviously). does anyone have a spare?? thanks to all, alan in los angeles
  20. hi shane . . . thanks for the response . . . i've looked everywhere for a source of vacuum, but i can't find anything. . . there must have been a hose on this breather before the fire . . . it may have gone to one of the K&N air filters, but that's where the fire started, so those were destroyed . . . the new K&N's have no fitting on the back plate . . . what am I missing? I REALLY don't want to drill any holes in my intake manifold. where's vacuum? :banghead: as for pics of the "resurrection," I was going to post a full history from burned-out hulk to finished product . . . but here's a shot of the engine compartment:
  21. greetings from sunny So Cal . . . you may remember that i had a pretty bad engine fire back in April . . . many of you provided me with much-needed parts and assistance, for which i'm very grateful . . . THANK YOU!! . . . a buddy and i took everything apart and have been slowly putting it back together. we're now 95% done (the wiring took a while!), and we're down to the details. on the passenger side of the block, at the rear near the bell housing, there's a breather of some kind . . . please see the pictures below . . . what does this do? if the part coming out of the Motorcraft grommet is a PCV valve, i'm not getting any vacuum (suction) . . . if a hose fits over that part, where does that hose go? is this part of the smog system? if so, i'll need to get it working in order to register the car. any and all advice will be greatly appreciated! alan in LA
  22. Greetings . . . I'm in need of a Lucas 6DA Wiper Control Unit for my '92 Caterham . . . see the pic below . . . does anyone have one to sell me? I also need a dipstick for a Super Sprint X-flow. It should have a yellow handle and be "springy" (i.e., not a solid stick). other parts needed: a cap for the radiator overflow bottle, and an oil breather cap for the valve cover, with an elbow for the PCV valve. I'm the guy who had the engine fire back in March . . . I'm about a month away from being back on the road!! I'll be posting a detailed photo essay of the resurrection. many thanks, alan in Los Angeles
