Excellent! It's on the route. I'm looking forward to this drive! Hopefully, it's trouble free... -

BTW, 6 days and 4,000 miles is a haul in any vehicle... much less a 7! I am planning on driving the Angeles Crest and Rim of the World Highways in CA... google maps says that'll take about 5 hours for about 150 miles. It might be a bit quicker in a 7 tho. ;0 -

Y'all have given me quite a list! Keep 'em coming. It sounds like I'll need to address the fender and headlight mounting issues... soon. -
Anyone know this Donkervoort for sale cheap?
dhubbard422 replied to mfast's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna' be thrilled with my new S1 (I pick it up Sunday...) BUT, I'd have been all over this if it had been for sale a few weeks ago. We ran Cosworth BDA's in Formula Atlantic's back in the '70s & '80s and oh my... they sound very nice... a well tuned BDA is something special. -
Superformance S1 & Size 13's...
dhubbard422 replied to dhubbard422's topic in General Sevens Discussion
It's good to know that size 12's and 13's (with appropriate footware) will fit! I tried on some Puma driving shoes, but they were too narrow. So, I started looking at the minimalist shoes. I'm not quite ready for the five fingers thing... but, I bought a pair of Merrell Barefoots last night! Thanks for the suggestions. -

Everyone, Thanks for all of the great suggestions! I hadn't realized/comprehended that the side mirrors are attached to the doors on the S1... -

Mike, I expect we rode together in '96. I was riding a GasGas in Amateur. A few years later I worked my way up to Nat'l Support (and local Expert) but I've found I'm happier with less risk, i.e. sandbagging the Sr Intermediate class. :jester: I'm really looking forward to the 7 experience! A 7 has been on my list for a quite a while now... Don -

Steve, Tom, All, Do you like traveling with the doors on or off the S1? Did the doors come with their own bags? Sounds like I should bring some towels to pack/stow top and (possibly) doors. I plan on bringing a couple of small tool bags; I'll buy an emergency tire fix-it kit in LA. Dry duffel bags. A few small towels. And ear plugs... Any other suggestions for 4 days and 1,500+ miles on two lane blacktop in a 7? Thanks, Don -

Tom, Thanks for the info - and for your number, hopefully, my trip will be trouble free... If all goes well, I plan to cross AZ next week on Monday and Tuesday. I hope to leave Big Bear Lake (CA) Monday AM, cross the Twentynine Palms Hwy, Hwy 60, then take 89 & 89A through Wickenburg, Prescott & Jerome (your suggestions). On Tuesday I plan to continue east from Jerome to Ruidoso (NM) through the forest across 260 & 60 - have you driven these roads? Hwy 260 out of Clarkdale looks like it might be fun. Thanks, Don (five12) five7six-ate29five -

Mike would have to answer that one. Typically the special editions run about a grand more than the standard versions, which would be about a grand less than your number. Plus, in my experience, almost no one pays full retail for a trials bike... -
Hey Superformance S1 Owners, I'm doing a fly-n-drive to pick up my new-to-me 7 on Sunday and I've been told that stowing the top in the boot on a Superformance S1 takes up most of the space in the boot (trunk). Any tips for packing the top? If I pack it carefully, will there be any space left for tools and gear in the boot? Or should I bring a waterproof duffel for my gear? I'll start a backroads trip from LA to Austin Sunday afternoon! Thanks in advance, Don

Just to clarify... "these things" are observed trials bikes - right? If so, it's really hard to spend $10K on one, but possible if you add a lot of goodies. $8K is a better ballpark for a new trials bike. The Gas Gas importer is very near you and I imagine that Dale would do you quite a deal. The Sherco importer (RYP) is in KY which isn't very far away either. -

:party:New toys are fun! And this is way too much of a coincidence... I see from your avatar that you probably ride with C.O.T.A; I rode with C.O.T.A. at a few events in '96!! I was in Eugene for a year. Mike, I may have ridden an event or three with you too! Enjoy the Cabestany! I rode Sherco(s) from '99 - 2003 (and really enjoyed them). I've been riding Beta(s) since 2004. -

Never even came close to winning. I hadn't learned the trick of sandbagging! Older and wiser now. :jester: -

We've probably ridden the same events! Y'all have a great riding spot in Trenton. I've ridden a couple of Central Regional events there - although the last time was getting pretty close to 10 years ago. -

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Russ, I used to ride several trials series including: Nationals, Central Regionals, and the Texas State Series for trials. I think the 7 is a response to going slow for quite a while now... Where/which trials events do you ride? Tom, I thought I'd ask for route advice on another thread, but I am planning to avoid the super slab whenever possible. It's ok if my trip takes an extra day or two... For example, when leaving LA I'd like to take the Angeles Crest Hwy and then the Rim of the World Hwy to Big Bear Lake. From there, I'd head across AZ to Jerome or Sedona, something like Hwys: 62, 95, 72, 60, 89 & 89A. But, I'm open to suggestions for great roads! Thanks everyone, Don -

Hello, My name is Don and I live just outside of Austin, TX. Somehow... I am rapidly approaching my 6th decade and I just bought a 7 (a Superformance S1) from a member on this forum. I work as an Interaction Designer for a large hardware and software company in Austin. When I was in my 20's I wormed my way into a gig as a Pro Formula Atlantic mechanic for almost a decade. I also have a motorcycle hobby, aka "habbit"... and I regularly ride and organize observed trials events; I think there are a couple of other 7 owners on this forum that also have this unique combination of interests. I also have an old airhead BMW - an R100GS PD for rides in the Hill Country. I expect that the GSPD and the 7 will compete for those weekend rides/drives... I started autocrossing a couple of years ago (in a Miata) and I plan to set up the Superformance to be a competent autocrosser, if it isn't already (TBD). I'll think I'll start a separate thread to ask for favorite back road suggestions - as my first trip in my new 7 will be to drive it home. The 7 is currently in sunny Southern California and I'll fly out next weekend to drive it back to Austin! At 1,400+ miles on secondary roads, it should be a bit of an adventure. When I was much younger, I once road a 1977 Ducati Super Sport from Toronto to Long Island, to DC and then Dallas - I hope the cross country trip in the 7 will be a bit more comfortable than that ride on the Duc! I hope to meet some fellow 7 owners too! It'd be great to learn if there are any regular or semi-regular gatherings of 7 owners in Texas. Thanks, Don -
Superformance S1 & Size 13's...

rnr - I am located in Austin TX jimrankin - Thanks for the suggestions! Modifying the pedals could help and that would be relatively straight forward. If there was a Superformance S1 near to Austin that I could use for a test fit, that would be really helpful. -
Superformance S1 & Size 13's...

S1Steve, 7 plus 2, rnr, Speedwagon - thank you for your replies! I am 6'1", 220#, with a long torso, short-ish legs and I wear size 13 shoes. I once made the mistake of trying to drive a Birkin with running shoes on and it was very, very difficult to put my shoe on just one pedal... I expect that a proper (narrow) shoe would have helped a lot. I then sat in an older Caterham and thought that the footbox was a bit tighter than the Birkin. Unfortunately, I only have this less than encouraging experience to gauge how I fit in a 7. The Superformance S1 does have an adjustable (fore-aft) pedal set-up and my short-ish legs might allow me to gain a little room by moving the pedal ass'y towards me a bit, but I usually find that my seat is still mostly all-the-way-back in most vehicles that I drive. Thanks again -
Hi All, I'm considering acquiring an S1, but it is located across the country and I wear size 13 shoes. I've had difficulty in both a Caterham and Birkin activating just one pedal (as opposed to two simultaneously...) So, does anyone reading this forum with "big feet" have a positive or negative experience with a Superformance S1? Thanks in advance, Don

Hello. It appears that I can not send a private message... I have attempted to send you several messages, but only the first message (to which you replied) appears in my sent items. Please contact me via the contact info on that first message as I would like to learn more about your S1. Thanks.
