  1. yeti, just a quess , but have you looked at the newer car's (Birkin) nose with the small turn signals built into it? looks nice and would solve one of the problems on the list. bill c.
  2. i'd question that right side on this car. was it hit and repaired poorly. I don't remember ever seeing one with the side panel done that way.(patched)the small skinny tires don't go to well with what looks to be later wider fenders? overall the pictures do show a clean well prepared car .if you decide to buy it ,I hope you can get a close look at it first. bill c.
  3. yeti, sorry to see your having problems. your getting good advice from others ,that I've seen here. i'd quess your chosen inspector is not familiar with our type of car. he ,I hope is listed on the special inspectors list you should have gotten from your tag place. in my experience last year , with the two cars I brought in from out of state , the inspector must finish the paper work and apply his stamp and sign ,he also must take the pictures at his place of business and he is the one who sends the package in to DOT. normal practice is to inspect your car and give you a list of things to fix and then bring the car back to him. when it passes he then finishes papers and sends it all in. you taking the papers and photos in to DOT may have set off alarms. it is also possible you inspector may have had problems previously with the DOT and they are watching what he does . if your car is the red one I saw on this site ,it looked to be very well done and as mentioned ,he did a lot of these cars. could you get any brochures from him on your car and does he have any of the parts you need among his spares that he did not install because they are not needed where he is? i'm sure this will work out ok ,and any help you need you can find among the users on this site. bill c.
  4. yeti, you can go on penn dot web site and read over their rules .it's fairly easy. if your title states that your car is spl construction ,kit car, replica,or something to that effect, you must do the special inspection .mine was $150 for my 68 seven replica .I used blast from the past in Pottstown pa, but you can go to any tag place and they have all the forms and if you need spl inspection they will give you a list of who's licensed to do it and where they are located . if your buying it out of state go and get a transport tag for it. that way you can drive it for about a month while you wait for paper work from a special inspection . my last two transfers and inspections took about three weeks for the papers to return . you can then get tags the same day. good luck, bill c.
  5. yes it is , i'm also getting inspection to bring car in to pa. plus i'm having them mount with support the brackets to be able to use a racing harness for track days . bill c.
  6. hi dan, I've just done a car last year from ill into pa, and just bought a seven from Arizona and am about to get it transferred into pa. if you are picking it up there you want to get a temp tag, giving you 30 days or more to be able to drive the car , even if you are trailering it.. if you live in pa you'll have to register it here so you need to have it inspected ( by a special inspection shop listed on the DOT web site if it is listed as special construction or kit car , etc , etc. ) .if it's regular title you'll be able to just do fast tag and regular state inspection . either way fast tag will have all the forms you need. special inspect is usually $150.00. I use BLAST FROM THE PAST in Pottstown pa. the list will show you who's close to you. for insurance I found infinity to be pretty good overall for both price and coverage (they gave me same coverage as my truck and mini clubman on vintage policy) there are one or two companies that won't restrict the number of miles you drive, but unless it's your daily driver how many miles do we really put on these cars ? be sure and bring a check to tag service to pay Harrisburg for taxes on purchase of car, if any tax was paid in montana you may be able to deduct from pa taxes, they want title, bill of sale , proof of insurance ,even a statement from seller if as in my case miles differs because a used speedo was installed. if you get special inspection you'll get paper work back in about two weeks and can get tag the same day. if you get temp tag you can drive car to inspection and use it till paperwork arrives. have a safe trip and post some pictures, bill c.
  7. i'm looking to fit a quick release wheel on my seven series 2 replica.( spitfire shaft with an adapter and wheel from a company called astrali ). what have you used to set up your own car. I know so far that NRG doesn't make one large enough to work on an older style wheel . I've a 6 bolt pattern , 2 inches apart between the bolt holes on a wheel with a 3 1/2 center and 4 inch outer circle where bolts mount the wheel to hub. I prefer not to cut and weld the steering shaft if I can help it. what has anyone come across that I could use ? thanks, bill c.
