  1. Thank you all. I can't wait to get it on the track next spring. Although, I have to say the prospect of driving this car at 8 or 9 tenths around Lime Rock Park is really frightening. Will post my track logs here.
  2. Better image, more appropriately conveying the feelings of the moment http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa83/shotgunslade/IMG_0011.jpg
  3. It's here. My daughter and I preparing for our first drive. It didn't get here until about 3:30pm, so only had time for a couples of rides around the block. Next weekend. The provisions for NJ registration detract a bit. The heat shield for the exhaust is downright ugly, and the windshield isn't the most elegant, but... http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa83/shotgunslade/IMG_0010small.jpg
  4. I sent the pics to the MVC Special Vehicles guy here in NJ, and he didn't comment on the front fenders. I think they will stop direct backward spray that would wind up in the passenger compartment. It weighs 1050 lbs dry, and the stock F22 engine from the Honda S2000 makes 237 bhp at 8000 rpm. I believe this eninge might make a little more because of reduced losses on intake and exhaust. Will send more pictures after she arrives tonite. Tomorrow is going to be clear, sunny, and 60 DegF in NJ. Might make use of those Texas plates.
  5. Well, Brian has done his magic again, and my new baby is making hte long truck ride from Lancaster to Princeton, NJ. Should be here Monday. Too late for any track days this year, but next year..... http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa83/shotgunslade/orgxr7aplfsmall.jpg and http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa83/shotgunslade/orgxr7lroct08small.jpg It does have a removable windshield, so I can go after the elusive NJ street legal status: http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa83/shotgunslade/orgxr7wsf.jpg and, of course, there is an interior: http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa83/shotgunslade/orgxr7intoct08small.jpg Guess this means, I'm a full-fledged 7'er now, so I need to pay my dues.
  6. Mondo: Great looking ride. I think I'm next in the queue. Brian mentioned that some problems with the car before mine, which I assume is yours, was delaying my delivery. Hoping to get mine in a couple of weeks. Will post pics when it arrives. Shotgunslade
  7. I just got my new trailer from Glenn Ehrgott at Performance Trailer. It is the narrow version, like Jeff Duncan got, except it has the double axle. It has electric brakes. I elected not to get the electric winch. Unfortunately, somehwere between the invoice and the build. the spare tire and mount got lost, but I have contacted Glenn and I am sure he will make it right. (91.5 inches wide, 900 lbs., 6000 lbs. GVWR, $4500, including tax) Pardon the quality of the picture, it's my phone camera, since my regular camera is in the shop. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa83/shotgunslade/danstrailersmall.jpg Thanks to all of you for pointing me in this direction. In about a month, I should be able to post a picture with the XR7 sitting on the trailer.
  8. I guess I'm going to have to get the body kit for my new XR7. I had been wondering about an aerodynamic body for the car. I really loved the Panoz Roadsters in ALMS from a few years ago. The XR7 with the enveloping body could almost be a junior version of that car. The only thing I would worry about was lift. I remember watching videos of the Mercedes Group C car (or whatever IMSA class it was) get airborne at Road Atlanta about 10 years ago. When you are talking about over 400 bhp per ton, flight really becomes an issue.
  9. I am also in the noobie group, having ordered a WCM XR7 and having paid for half of it so far (payments as the build progresses). Wondering how I'm going to get it from Lancaster, TX to Princeton NJ in March. Maybe, if I get dealer plates from Brian, driving it from Texas to NJ, (no heater, no radio, no top, windshield and wipers fo NJ registration, weather gear consisting of a drain plug in the cockpit floor, and my ski clothes), will qualify me for Lower Intermediate status. Have already signed up for track days at Pocono and LRP with NASA-NE, and two dates in May at Summit Point witth NASA-MA (will take the track-veteran Subie if WCM not yet in hand), so will likely have the opportunity to spin it at the track, possibly qualifying me for Advanced Intermediate.
  10. I'm also getting a car from Brian in March, an XR-7, which I will be attempting to register in NJ. I am not planning on trying for any emissions exemption. Can you explain to me the requirements for the the fuel tank evaporative system? This issue seems to be something I overlooked.
  11. Thanks all. More and more sounds like this is the railer for me. Will give Glenn a call. in an earlier email conversation with him, he implied that this trailer weighed about 1000 lbs in single axle form. Looks like he might be about 100 lbs off. I might be able to get the second axle and still be only 1000 lbs. Might want to get that higher GVWR just in case I take leave of my senses and change to a heavier car. Dan
  12. Bruce: Thanks much. That is very helpful. I'm thinking I will go with the Performance Trailer, but I might get twin axles. Dan
  13. Bump. Has anyone weighed their Performance Trailer yet? Still trying to decide what to order.
  14. Has anyone weighed their Performance USA7's edition trailer. I am just about to pull the trigger on a trailer and I have 3 candidates: 1. Performance Trailers USA7's edition ??lbs., 1 axle ???GVWR, 78" bed width 2. Aluma Model 7812 900 lbs. 2 axles 7000 GVWR, 78" bed width 3. R&R Model Model UT614-H 800 lbs. 2 axles, 5000 GVWR, 72" bed width What I like about options 2 and 3 is that they maintain the low weight, have 2 axles and have the capability of hauling something weightier than a 7. The Aluma might be jsut a little wide for my garage. Have an email in requesting total width. The R&R looks perfect, only 92" wide.
  15. Al: What was the title of the document that you received when you failed. I can ask for a copy from the state if I know the title of the document. Thanks.
  16. Bump. Al, could you respond to the post immediately preceeding this one. The windshield issue seems to be the msot critical one. I have the reconstructed car regulations but there doesn't seem to be a specific requirement for a windshield, just for a wiper if there is a windshield.
  17. Al: I am proceeding with the reconstructed vehicle route. I have received the regulations from MVC today, and they don't look so bad. Of course, sometimes, the interpretation of words that don't look so bad to the naive private citizen can be interpreted to be "really bad" by the bureaucracy. My engine will be a stock Honda S2000 with all emissions gear. I will do all of the turn signals, stop lights,, horn, reflectors, parking brake, high beam indicator, hazard lights, parking lights, rear view mirror, etc. In the regulations, I don't see any requirement for a windshield, but there is a requirement for a windshield wiper, if there is a windshield. I see the little phrase that caused you grief with you exhaust, and for which I will have to provide some kind of shield or cover. Any points as to what issues might cause a problem?
  18. Does anyone have any experience with Lexan windscreens, especially in New Jersey? I am trying to get all the details sorted out for my foray to DMVA when the Ultralite arrives in March> Thanks.
  19. Got it, al. Thanks. Have asked Brian about registering the car in texas first.
  20. I have pulled the trigger and ordered a WCM Ultralite from Brian Anderson, for delivery in March. I am interested in registering it for street use in NJ. I assume that my situation will be similar to that other "clone" owners on this issue. I understand that there are several categories into which my car may fall. It could be a collectible car, a "street-rod" or a "kit-car." Since I am buying it ready-to-drive, I wonder if the latter two categories apply. There is the issue that the engine for the car was previously in another car, which has been demolished. I expect that I will have to get the state DMV to issue a VIN, unless the engine number of the demolished car can be used. For inspection, I assume I need to watch out for the usual suspects, turn signals, brake lights, windshielf wipers, headlights, etc, and, of course, properly functioning equipment. Does NJ have any unexpected issues. I spoke with someone from Maryland, who said that state required windshielf washers, even if there wasn't a windshield. Does anyone have any guidance on this matter? Thanks.
  21. Powderbrake: Thanks. Your remarks are much appreciated. I sent RDROCKT a PM. Your remarks about the WCM ruggedness are very comforting. My Subaru worries me from time to time with little malfunctions from track abuse.
  22. My name is Dan Nall. I live in Princeton, NJ and work for a large consulting engineering firm in NYC designing mechanical systems for buildings. Been a car nut my entire life. First sports car mag was Nov. 1961 issue of Sports Car Graphic. Loved Bill Dixon's Maserati 300S-Chevy. Have had a BMW 2002tii, an Alfa Berlina, a 911, and a Fiat Spider. For the last 10 years have had 2 Subaru SVX's, the second of which has been modified for the track: 2004 WRX 5 spd, coil-overs, Koni's, hi-lift intake camshaft, chip, Frozenrotors, wheels, exhaust, etc. Now that I am post-tuition, am planning to give in to the go-faster bug. Intend to purchase a Se7en in this upcoming year to go in my new post-tuition garage with lift. Probably will buy turnkey, rather than build it, because I don't want to wait to hit the track with it. The Subaru is fun and surprisingly fast, but I want more. Looking seriously at WCM. Will be in Dallas in May, so will drop by Brian's shop, look, sit, and hopefully, drive. I usually drive with PDA and Connecticut Autocross and Rally Team, and will probably hit the Triregion SCCA PDX at Pocono again this June. Haven't seen many Se7ens at these events in the past. Hope to see some of you at future track events.
  23. I'm a brand new member who just joined because I am seriously considering giving myself a streetable Ultralite XR7 for my 60th birthday. I have been driving my highly modified Subaru SVX in track days for two years now. Am a NASA HPDE 2, hoping to go up to 3 this year. Have driven 4 courses at Pocono, Watkins Glen and Lime Rock and a couple of AutoX's. Will be hitting Summit Point and Road Atlanta for Panoz School later this year. My new ride will be 95% track and 5% street. Will trailer it to the track. Have read the posts here by S2K owners and they re-affirm my selection of WCM. Plan to visit Brian in May to view and drive both the S2K and the XR7. My questions: Any XR7 owners out there, and if so, how do you feel about the car? Any second hand experience, or even any vile rumors? As I am a developing driver, how user-friendly will I find the WCM cars? My previous car was a 82 911SC which would turn around and bite a chunk out of you if you crossed it. My Subaru is very forgiving, only spun it once when I did something really stupid with cold tires, a cold track and a cold brain. How about fragility? I saw a Superformance S2 driver drop a wheel off the pavement at Pocono and rip off his entire right front suspension. Thanks for the info. Hope to be a good forun participant. Am a long time member at Subaru-SVX.net. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smile5.gifhttp://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/coolgleamA.gifshotgunslade2007-01-06 10:30:06
