  1. I’ll plan to bring my old BDA S3 but likely just for the gathering.
  2. I might be interested in your black ones if you are selling. My oem frame seems way too large and does now fit with the S3 top I have.
  3. We are tripping over the older ones in Japan- it’s neat to see 7’s fairly often. I second Croc’s link to goo.net, and I can add http://yahoo.aleado.com/26360-catlist.html -there’s a few of each brand on there too.
  4. Someone messaged me about their genuine HPC BDR (‘90) for sale in the UK, engine built by John Wilcox, and I believe he’s looking for $42k
  5. Looking for a Smith’s KPH speedometer/dial and wanted to see what 13x7 wheels are out there preferably Minilite style. Yes I’m in Japan but I would be shipping to a US address.
  6. I’m having a bit of a problem keeping the temp down on my car. If I let it idle for a few minutes it goes beyond dial. Now my car is an old BDR with a displayed 19k miles and I’m sure it was sitting for many years. I’m sure it needs a replacement radiator. Currently it has two fans- push and pull with the push being toggle switch activated. The pull fan was installed with peg mounts pressed through the radiator fins. I’m not driving this car anywhere in Tokyo, least of all to get inspected before getting a sufficent temp regulation. What’s everyone else’s coolant system consist of? (not just BDR) I’m guessing aluminum rad/tanks with aluminum fan and water wetter additive. I’m goinng to flush the system for now and make sure the pull fan comes on at some point.
  7. Thanks for the replys. The driver’s license was a simple class and test as American military stationed there- I’m an AF medical officer. In the congested Tokyo areas it’s terrible for driving, but there are endless switchbacks in the mountains.
  8. I’m doing a two year tour in Tokyo and shipped my BDR Caterham over. I found the only house in my town with a garage available so I lucked out. I just ordered a km speedo dial and am working on getting it legal over here. Expecting to have a lot of fun in the mountains (9 miles from my house) with it. I couldn’t find any battery specs (cca) for it online nor translate the labels here so I purchased a unit that fits. Endlessly searching for a set of 13x7 108 Minilites for fulltime use. I did pass a Caterham dealer (because there are plenty here!) 23 miles away (2hrs by car or train) while it and I were being flatbedded home from the port. Can’t wait to go on drives! I did see another one across the street from my Air Base- Japan is thick with them!
  9. In the two pictures attached, are the oil return valve in the front left if you are facing forward (above the headers). The one picture shows red glue that didn’t hold. The other, the sleeve that no longer fits to the head that I could pull right out. So far the JB weld has solved the issue.
  10. It’s funny, I’m doing the same exact thing today- tracing oil leaks on the left side of my dry sump bdr. I had repaired one already- the oil return sleeve was improperly ‘glued’ and ill fitting to the head. JB weld to the rescue. I see my catch can might be the culprit of some of the other mess, but some fresh oil on the accessory gears.
  11. Anyone have a used kph speedo they would like to sell?
  12. Potentially a cheap Caterham in the UK plus shipping. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caterham-seven-7-1600-aluminium-yellow-S3-not-Westfield-mk-grab-a-bargain/232867624593?hash=item3637fdf691%3Ag%3ABxwAAOSwQWxbIpq9&_mwBanner=1&_nkw=Caterham&rt=nc
  13. Croc, it has a Cali vin tag that matches the title as a ‘69 Lotus Super 7 S3. It was advertised to have an Arch motors tag as well as being a genuine HPC but my dad hasn’t located it yet (I think it will be a pre-HPC code myself, but genuine BDR). I’ll get to check it out by the end of Aug.
  14. Thanks guys. Kitcat, the pictures look fine but my dad says the paint is all cracked and the nosecone looks rattle-canned. The seat needs to be re-dyed, the tires are bald, the windshield base gasket is shot, and the aluminum needs an immediate polish- missing seat belts, a badge, and the grille. Again, all things I don’t mind doing. Croc, it’s an early to mid 80’s car (he hasn’t found the chassis tag yet- any red flags yet?), and it’s titled as a 69, so I’m hoping to expedite the Japanese registration. I have a newer Ducati Scrambler that I’m sure I ought to leave behind but I’m tempted to bring that too.
  15. Hi, a few weeks ago I purchased my first 7. It’s an early BDR car that was featured on Kim Baker’s site and noted on here. I haven’t seen the car yet in person as I had my father collect it and store it- it was also his dream car to have a BDA powered 7 since the 70’s (my mom said no). The car is mechanically great however very crusty overall I’ve found out, having most likely been kept outside in California for years. I am moving to the greater Tokyo area soon for 2 yrs and may take it with. The only way I won’t bring it back is if I can track down the ‘63 Elan I was practically born in that my father used to own. Otherwise I’m pretty excited to put some elbow grease into refreshing the aesthetics. It’s my 50th vehicle purchase and I’ve had 4 Lotus’s that I have daily driven through the years. In my heart I knew that I needed a 7 all along. Cheers! Steve M
