  1. Thanks for the picture Al. If you get a chance would you take a look at the last post I made on the Zetec thermostat housing?
  2. Has anyone come up with a way of covering the hole where the clutch line and bleeder line go through the bellhousing? I have tried a few things but not satisfied with the results. I seem to always be leaking some fluid out of the thermostat housing and would like to keep the fluid and assorted other junk out of the clutch.
  3. I measured 2 inches from the front edge of the wing to the front of the wingstay and about 2 1/4 inches to the fasteners . Where are the rear fasteners bonded on you wings? Would turning them front to back work?
  4. Al: Where is the belt tensioner on your engine? I have a SVT and the mount that hold the tensioner in place is located on the left side of the engine and looks like it would interfer with the Raceline water rail. The mount is a good sized casting and comes back halfway between the #1 & # 2 cylinders. I looked at the picture from the above thread and I don't see the tensioner on your car. Guess I could get the kit that is being sold to relocate the tensioner. Thanks for the info. Mike
  5. Is a thermostat housing available for the Zetec that is not made of plastic?
  6. My Caterham developed a crack in the exhaust at the weld just ahead of the forward oxygen sensor after about 2500 miles. I had it welded and has been OK for the last 1000 miles. I bought my car from Rocky Mountain Sporstcars and talked to them about the crack . They said they had seen it before and developed a bracket to support the exhaust in this area. The bracket connects where the primary tubes bolt to the collector and the other end attaches near the pedal box. I don't know if any other dealers have a fix or not. I don't know if the bracket works since I am still waiting on mine, must be made of unobtainium. Take a look at the rubber bobbins that mount the exhaust to the body, they may be binding indicating that the exhaust is twisted on its mounts. I fought getting my system installed , never have been able to get it completley sealed. Make sure whoever you get to repair the exhaust knows the system is stainless steel !
  7. This is a method from the California Caterham Club, showing an alternate way of attaching cycle wings. http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com/resources/. I used a can of spray on truck bed lining on both the front and rear fenders on my car. I have seen where guys take fenders to a shop that spray on bed liners but I was satisfied with the results straight from the can. I wouldn't sweat the torque wrench calibration if it hasn't been dropped or abused. I would be skeptical of putting grease on any eletrical fitting, what the build manual calls for is a copper based anti seize compund and any parts store will have it. Plan on posting any pictures of the big day? Good luck.
  8. Not from Arkansas but found some terrific roads in the northern part of the state while visiting. Web site:http://www.arkansas.com/outdoors/motorcycling/ Since there has been talk of a 2008-2009 national meeting with the Ozark area being a possibility thought this might be worth a look.
  9. http://usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/821202899_IMG_2248.jpg i found this bag at Wal-Mart for $4.00, it is meant as a trash bag but works great for keys, wallet, glasses etc.It is about 10"h x8"w x5"d and fits nicely between the seats and doesn't interfere while driving or getting in or out of the car. I used a few extra snaps leftover from my tonneau cover to secure it to the bulkhead. The base for the snaps is pop riveted to the bulhead.
  10. Bart, The Caterham on ebay has the DeDion rear end with a limited slip differential. Putting on cycle fenders would not be too hard,a little disassembly on the front uprights to install the stays that hold the fenders. Looked on Caterham USA website and fenders are just over $90 each. They don't show the wingstays in their parts catalog but the UK Caterham site has them and they are around $90 each as well. You would also end up with a few holes to fill where the clamshell fenders attach to the body. I waited about 30 years to get my 7, that seems to be fairly common!
  11. A Caterham just showed up on ebay. It is a 2000 with Zetec , De Dion and less than 1000 miles. It is painted, BRG with yellow stripe and has clamshell fenders. Is located in Oregon.
  12. What is policy on allowing spectators at the event? I live in the area and would like to check it out if possible. I am having a little knee surgery so don't know if I can drive my Caterham but if able to get in to the track I will be there. Where are you staying? Maybe a small 7 get together after the track time is done ?
  13. not a typo, must have slipped through the sarcasm filter. breezy 7
  14. Anyone interestred in a genuine Lotus Seven Club sweatshirt? It is a gray pullover with the club emblem(the grill of a 7 with the Union Jack) on the right sleeve and Lotus Seven Club script on the left. It has never been worn, it is extra large and I should have gotten a large. It is item Lotus 05 in the regalia section of the Lotus Club website. Figured buying my wife 7 related clothes would go over better than the Craftsman buffer I got her last Christmas to keep the aluminum polished. Make me an offer, it runs around $50 from the club plus another $200 for shipping from England. I can be reached at Mikeyguard2000-fidget@yahoo.com. I'll pick up the shipping as part of my penance. 15. Cherik, am located in Breese, IL, about 50 miles east of St. Louis,MO. Not the best sporstcar country, lots of flat straight roads with lovely corn vistas. There are a couple guys in St. Louis that have Caterhams, one is about 10 years old with 1700cc Ford and the other is a brand new SV with 220hp and 6 speed. I have a 200hp SVT Zetec with 5 speed. Needed you at Elkhart Lake for the vintage race, only 2 Caterhams and very few Lotus cars in general. Our car is pictured on partypics.com. Did the touring of Road America on Sunday of the SVRA evand they take pictures of everyone driving. Punch in Elkart for code to get to the pictures, I think we are on page 8 for SVRA Sunday Touring, the other Caterham that weekend toured on Friday but I haven't looked to see if he is pictured. Where are you located? I saw from the Frapper map a Caterham in Burlington,WI, we stayed there on the way to Road America. Breezy 7
  16. Harold : If you haven't found it already check out www.thecaterhamproject.com, best thing I found showing a Caterham build. It got me through the winter of 2005-2006 waiting for my Caterham, and was helpful a few times during the build(spacers under the steering rack that are not mentioned in the assembly guide, set up of the parking brake adjuster, using saw horses to build on etc). I met the guy at Road America this past July, we had the only 2 Caterhams there and ended up parking within 100 feet of each other. We shared a few stories and I stole an idea he has for mounting motorcycle mirrors on his car. The Caterham kit is top notch, I was very impressed with the quality and completeness of the kit. Assembly is pretty straight forward, I did mine with basic tools, only needed to borrow a 200ft./lb torque wrench and an inch and five eights socket for the nuts that hold the half shafts to the uprights.
