  1. Run n Gun is again coming to the St.Louis area , October 12, 13 & 14th at Gateway International Speedway!!!! This is, without a doubt, the most fun you can have in your Se7en, anywhere, anytime. It is a 3 day event , with LOTS of road course time, an Autocross, and the Drags The producers of this kit car event have finally released their website with rules, classes, hotels etc. see it at >www.runngun.net Last year John Meyers in a supercharged Stalker won the Autocross and the "Overall Top Dawg"... he put the fear of Se7ens into those Cobra guys. The year before, 4 Ultralites carried away 10 or 12 trophies. I urge all Se7ens owners to consider this event. Come on out, and blow those Cobra, Scarab, and GT40 kits into the weeds on the road course!!!! You will run with your own class, Street, prepared or Pro. The Autocross is set up by the local SCCA guys in the track parking lot, and you get 3 or 4 timed runs. They do a great autocross layout. The drag event is both best time and bracket drags, so you have just as good a chance as anyone. Last year it came down to a fiero based kit with a stock V6 against a blown big block Cobra in the final bracket drag. ( the cobra won, the front brake on the fiero locked up) In the practice/timed drag sessions, to perfect your bracket time, you can run as many times as you ( or your clutch) can stand. Gateway International is a great track with VERY friendly staff, the garage area is like a huge covered concrete patio with air and electricity. Reserve a garage space if you come, (two se7ens will fit in one garage space) They have plenty of parking space for trailers close to the garage. I am going back for the 3rd year, simply because it's the most fun you can have in a very safe enviornment. I run in Street class, check the rules for your tire classification. Stickier tires are in Prepared, and Slicks run in Pro. Register NOW!!!! the $375 fee goes up to $425 on September 1, and is $500 on Oct 12. Be there...... Se7ens RULE !!!!!
  2. Hash: Congratulations on a great looking car, I hope to see it some day. I am in St.Louis, perhaps we can get together for a blat sometime. The local lotus club ( STALLS) is very welcoming to all types of Se7ens, and has cruises a couple times a year. You are fortunate, as west of Cape Girardeau, in south central missouri are lots of great twisty roads. I have arranged a 3 day 600 mile tour of that area, and 4 of us are doing it next week. you can contact me at geddens at charter dot net
  3. Steve: see >http://www.emhart.com/products/pop/lsh.asp Jerry
  4. I have used these on my car. My rivet tool ( from Harbor Freight) has a threaded rod that replaces the collet which grips the typical pop rivet. You thread the rivnut onto the tool, push it in the hole, and then squeeze the tool to set the nut. BEWARE.... the harbor freight nuts are dead soft aluminm so the expand against the back side, and if you pull too hard, you strip out the threads. Of course harbor freight crap is not as good as the Emhart parts mentioned before, and the harbor freight nuts are not closed on the end like the Emhart picture. I did not use the rivnuts on my fenders, I used a rivet similar to the LSR Load Spreading Rivets to mount my rear fenders
  5. Loren Edwards and Kevin Boulton are driving Loren's Ultralite S2K which he assembled from a kit in the Tire Rack/Car and Driver/One Lap of America /Cannonball Run. The event starts Friday May 5, and you can follow the exploits of a 7 with no top , side curtains or real windshield, being driven 4000 miles over 8 days, while competing in timed events at some of the best tracks in the country, while towing a trailer with all required spare tires, parts, luggage and whatever. They are competing in class SSGT2 SB. ( Sports/GT cars under $40,000, with less than 3.5L)You can follow the event on their website >http://www.organicracing.com/ ( they plan a blog during the event) or on the event website which is >http://www.onelapofamerica.com/ Last year Team Iron Butt took second place in class with an Ultralite. They had to endure a lot of rain on the trips between the tracks, and it was pretty cold. I hope this year they have good weather. Rules are pretty simple. Helmets, fire extinguisher, NO support vehicles, run on street tires ( must be purchased from Tire Rack) and a wear rating over 140. (No slicks or DOT competition tires) Use same tires on all events (6 total tires allowed). They run an event, drive like crazy to the next event (sleep optional) and repeat that for 7 more days. Checkout the one-lap website,it has all the rules some pics of the cars, and the track locations. It all sounds like a lot of fun, but it has to be a incredibly tiring event. Good luck to the Sevens !
  6. Check out > http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lotus-Super-Seven-Caterham-Co sworth-2L-BDP_W0QQitemZ4626909237QQcategoryZ6312QQrdZ1QQcmdZ ViewItem This car is too perfect to drive, it should be bought by some museum. I hope he gets a goodly price for iit, it is a work of art.
  7. slingsht... you don't have to keep the foot to the floor. It is just that the road course includes one end of the oval, then down the straight, and you get to choose your own level of excitement, depending on where you lift and where you brake. The groups, determined by tire capability, all have slow, medium and fast drivers. It's for kit cars, some guys are racers, some are there just for a good time. The road course is really where you can have some fun.
  8. The Stalker in Jim Gunther's reference is John Meyers' supercharged Stalker that won the top Gun trophy at Run & Gun 2005. John is a very experienced driver and builder....... Sevens Rule!
  9. This is a little early, and all the details have not been totally firmed up yet, but Run & Gun is scheduled for Oct 12-14th, 2006. For those of you who don't know about it, it's about the most fun you can have with your clothes on.http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smiley2.gif This event is a Triathalon for Kit Cars.http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smiley32.gif The event runs on Thursday, Friday,& Saturday, so you can have Sunday as a travel day. It is held at the Gateway International track, just across the river in Illinois from St.Louis. >http://www.gatewayraceway.com/track/map.php We will run the road course over the first two days, in your own practice group of Street, Prepared, or Pro or Pro Power Adder classes. You will get a couple solo timed laps to determine the Road course winners, and they are supposed to supply transponders this year. The second day there is an Autocross, set up by the local SCCA guys, and the third day is Drags. We get the dragstrip for almost all day, and you can make as many timed runs as your car can stand. Your best times go towards the "Top Gun" trophy, for combined Road Course, Autocross, and Drags. After timed runs, they set up bracket drags to see who is the "King of the Hill" Last year it was down to a super hot cobra, and a fiero with a dragging front brake, but he could really hit his times. The Cobra finally won. See the article in Kit Car Mag >http://kitcarmag.com/eventcoverage/0601kc_rgun/index.html It is a ton of fun, and last year there were (5) se7ens there. We can really blow off many Cobras in the twisty parts, but the oval and straight gives them a chance to catch up. The Cobras didn't catch the supercharged Stalker though, as he had the fastest road course time of all. If you have the guts to keep your foot on the floor around the big end oval and down the straight, into a 45 degree lefthander, you can really get the adrenaline pump going! For those who have never had their car on a track, there will be a new novice class which will have a "Lead-Follow" session, as well as their own class to run in, so you won't have to worry about some hot shoe drivers bearing down on you on your first time on the road course. There is supposed to be a new separate web site set up for the event, but until that occurs, you can reference the old web site ( warning , there may be some small rules changes, they have decided that Street Class tires are 200 treadwear rating and above, 199 and below are Prepared class, and Slicks are Pro class) >http://www.gessford.com/runngun/page2.htm This is a very, very driver friendly event and facility. You can rent a garage space which is in a very large concrete pad with a roof, and it has electicity and air. ( see the track map) You can leave your car there and park your trailer on the surrounding paddock, you can sit around after the event, work on your car, cook barbeque, and drink adult beverages all night. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/smiley20.gif ( Two years ago, a guy bought a frozen margahrita machine, and fired it up after the event) They don't thow everybody out after the event, like many tracks. No lying in the dust in the hot sun, working on the car, it's really nice. Fuel is available at the track. I will post more info as it become available. There is also supposed to be a cruise to a local ice cream place one night for those who wish to participate. Look at your calendar, and schedule in this event. You won't be disppointed. You get lots of track time, autocross and drags, all at one facility. Lets get some more se7ens at this event, and show those Cobras, Superformance coupes, Dragons, and other big V8 kits,&nb
  10. WoW ..... even the frame members are polished. I guess you have to wear white cotton gloves so you don't leave fingerprints. I liked my car til I saw yours, I have a lot to learn in attention to detail. powderbrake38737.53625
  11. sugino: That is the most magnificent Caterham I have ever seen!!! It is gorgeous!!! great job, I would love to see it in person , out in the sunshine. slngsht: yes I am on the Corvette forum, as JerryC5. I have a red 98 vert. see > http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1272254&amp ;page=3&pp=20 for my old and new garage setups Engine height: yes it is tall, the hood bump is needed. I have about 3 1/2 inch under the sump, and with 400 # springs in front it still rides well. it scraped the ground at first on the big bumps, but I had the ride height too low, and only had about 2 1/2 inch under the sump. I raised the ride height, added the 400# springs and it has never scraped the ground since, even with two people in the car. Brian's new design race version Ultralite has the engine at 45 degrees, and the whole car is only 35" to the top of the roll bar, but it cannot be a street car. see >http://home.earthlink.net/~wcmultralite/ It is tough to get enough rubber under a seven. The 17" wheels are there to clear the 12" Wilwood brake disks. 15" will probably work OK on your car. There are some Michelins and Yokos in 15". Most guys go as small as possible for lowering the car and for rotary inertia and weight. One guy is running 15" on the Ultralite, but he has to modify the brakes and get special wheels mmade for wide slicks. suspension... pics attached Front, with Aldan shocks which I changed to QA1's http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/powderbrake/2006-01-19_221450_005_2_Small.JPG Rear.. you can see the upper and lower trailing arms, two lower A arms at the bottom and one transverse arm at the top. Again with the old shocks. The suspension components are simply adjustable aluminum arms from a sprint car catalog, with 1/2 inch rod ends. Minimum unsprung weight with the diff being frame mounted. The tank, 13 gallons, sits on top of this area. all the area to the rear of the differential is trunk space. Brian Anderson, the designer, did a great job on coming up with a light weight, fully adjustable suspension. It is very easy to set the toe, alignment, and camber.( if you don't turn the bars in the wrong direction, which I have done) http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/powderbrake/2006-01-19_221517_017_14_Small.JPG
  12. Thank you for the welcome. I am always happy to talk about and show pics of my car. It is a WCM Ultralite with a stock Honda S2000 engine and 6 speed transmission. The sheetmetal is all aluminum over a 1" square tube frame. The fenders are aluminum, and the hood is fiberglass. The front end has modified fiero spindles, and a double a arm suspension made from aluminum adjustable bars. The rear end is a limited slip Subaru WRX with subaru axles and uprights. The shocks are QA1's all around. Rear suspension is a 10 link set-up all fully adjustable. All rod ends are threaded steel, there are no rubber bushings in the car. Wheels are SSR Comps, and the tires are Falken Azenis. It is a daily driver in the summer, ( No,Rob, it's not as warm here as Atlanta) and on those occasional winter days that hit the 60 or 65 mark. I don't have a top, so I am cautions about the possibilty of getting caught in a rainstorm. Ok here's where I start to brag. It was the Kit Car Magazine cover car in September 2005. You can see the pics and the article at >http://kitcarmag.com/featuredvehicles/0509kc_arment/ Click on the pics for a larger view. here's one of me with the car http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/powderbrake/2006-01-19_132556_Jerrybytree.jpg> I will pass this forum info on to my Se7ens friends, I hope it grows for you. Jerry
  13. Hi, I saw this forum and registered. This format is much better than the Se7ens mail list, as you can see pictures all the time, and it's easier to follow the threads. It appears to be a Rotus forum at this time, so I hope that as an Ultralite owner, I am welcome. I built my Ultralite last year, and have about 4000 miles on it by now. I drive it a lot in the warm weather, I'm in St.Louis, so it's not really warm enough right now. I hope to get to know you folks better, and I hope to learn and contribute to this forum.
