I have come to the sad conclusion that it is time to sell. Less and less time to drive her. I bought the car from a club member - http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2711 - who bought it from another member http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2451 - so I think the car is known to many of you! Here are the details. Built by Rocky Mountain Sportscars in 1999 the car was orginally registered in Massachusetts and then in Virginia after some upgrades by GT Classics. It is currently registered in Connecticut as a 2002 Ford composite. I bought it in 2008 with 13,250 miles and currently it has 15,500 miles. Never raced or seen rain while I have owned it. Caterham Seven America Zetec Roadsport Ford 2.0 L engine T9 Sierra 5 speed gearbox Limited slip diff Wide track front suspension Intake cam upgrade Roll bar + crossbrace Heater Leather seats 6 point harnesses Momo leather steering wheel Aluminum gear knob Tonneau cover Half top – bikini Roof Doors Luggage rack Red car cover The condition is good overall – there are the usual chips and some cracking on the fiberglass. The issues that need attention are – there is a dent in the aluminum on the rear above the exhaust and the windscreen has a crack on the driver’s side top corner (I have a new windscreen on order). I have included pictures of these. Asking $27,000 More photos can be seen here https://picasaweb.google.com/sylvanlane/Caterham

This seems like a brilliant idea only let down by the fact you have to go to England. Now if someone came up with it here I might be able to convince the family! http://www.easier.com/view/News/Motoring/Caterham/article-266096.html The Caterham with four beds, a fridge and a cooker 20 August 2009 Caterham and motorhome Motorists wishing to take a Caterham sportscar on the ultimate road trip can now enjoy all mod cons along the way, thanks to a unique offer launched by motorhome hire company, A Class Motorhome Rentals. Al - haven't had anything yet, paul

I hunted around, bought and returned several 'racing' mirrors which were all too big but the Mirrors for Sevens was by far the best, agree it takes a little getting used to. I have a simple solution to the adjustment problem - I don't let anyone else drive it!

I got this e-mail last week Caterham USA is excited to announce that their entire line of cars is now based on the same factory developed Duratec drive train packages as the UK market. This includes the stunning new Caterham Superlight R400 and the “Weapons Grade” Superlight R500. The R400 has been a perennial “best track day car” winner in many UK automotive magazines and is described as the “perfect balance of handling and power.” The first left hand drive R400 is here in Denver . We are just finishing the registration process and it will be on the road and on its way to complete road tests with all the major automotive magazines in the US . Look for articles featuring this gorgeous Titanium Silver R400 on the newsstand just after the New Year. In the last few months Caterham has released the new R500. The press has been wild about it in the UK . Caterham USA CEO Jon Nelson took a test ride in the first UK press car a few months ago and reports back that this is defiantly the fastest Seven he has ever been in. Not only is it fast he says, but totally drivable, with loads of torque anywhere in the rpm range. With 263 bhp, 528 bhp/ton and 0-60mph in 2.88 seconds, the numbers show that the new R500 is the quickest accelerating street legal car in the world. UK customer right hand drive cars are currently in production. Caterham USA has the first left hand drive R500 ordered and scheduled for build in January 2009. As soon as the first car gets here, it will be headed out to prove to the press that if they thought the R400 was quick, they haven’t seen anything yet! We have one or two build slots left in the January batch. So if you want to be the first to have the quickest Caterham ever get your order in now! Below is a link to an article featuring the R500, there are some fantastic photos! If you are interested in learning more about the US Caterham line-up, or have any questions, please feel free to contact us here at Caterham USA . The issue as I understand it comes down to if you go through the process with a car that has been registered in another state and you register it as a composite. This seems to just need a VIN inspection. I would try that route first, if you are required to get the inspection you're in for the whole DMV experience. If you build it yourself then I think you have to do the inspection. My front plate is under the front seat waiting for the correct bracket to mount it, officer........

Steve T - she's a blast and am already thinking about how to up the horse power!

So after a short holiday here's my up date on registration in CT -- I took delivery of Sandy's/SteveT's Seven a couple of weeks ago. I was able to get a temporary registration subject to emissions which it promptly failed as the DMV computer system couldn't match it to an existing car - both VIN and model. I kind of knew this would happen but at least I was on the road and driving. After numerous phone calls to DMV I got the advice that I had to get a composite inspection which in CT is only done in one place and requires a taking the car by trailer Hence --- http://usa7s.org/aspnetforum/upload/1937556230_IMG_0018.JPG Long story short but a very helpful DMV inspector, who after much debate and discussion with senior officers (they are DMV police with guns which I find slightly odd!) basically did a VIN inspection (which took some finding as its under the steering wheel) and passed her. So we are now legal and motoring. Have added a 7 grill and as far a I am concerned the essential map pocket. Thanks to Bruce and all others for their advice and help. My new post is here

As a new owner I am wrestling with how to answer the question I get every time I drive the car, namely what is it? I have test driven two two standard responses but feel neither really works and usually prompt more questions - most commonly - how old is it? Here they are - any improvements welcome "Its a Caterham Seven" (factually correct but produces blank stares) "Its a replica of a Lotus Seven"

CJ - been away and just catching up - I will shortly finish my post on registering in CT, I am near Stamford CT - happy to talk and you're more than welcome to for a test drive, paul

Doug - thanks, thats good to hear - will let every one know how it goes. The car was orginally MA titled but now is VA, so we'll see.

par replied to Avery Waterman's topic in Cars For Sale
Steve She's coming to CT, where we'll begin the harrowing DMV process - which I have narrowed down to bumpers (for which help is at hand!), bigger steering wheel and more ground clearance. -Other than bigger wheels any thoughts on how to get above 4"? -
Am looking for a set of 16" wheels for my new acquired Caterham paul
-
Thanks - everyone -I will call Bruce (thanks for the offer of help) - I have a feeling its going to be easier than I fear ......but its DMV so I want to plan for the worse. paul
