  1. Jar jar binks...! That's funny! Never occurred to me before but the resemblance is striking, eh?
  2. I'm 6'2" with size 12 skis on the ends of my legs. That's one of the reasons I picked the SV as the chassis for me. I got to sit in both a series 3 type (even got to drive it) and an SV to see how I fit. No question for me, SV was the way to go. Driving the S3 I had to do no shoes just socks due to space constraints. Not so with the SV, I wear my regular Vans slip-ons when blatting.
  3. Now THAT'S a story!
  4. I'll be driving my SV to Wisconsin from Cali later this year, around mid-August. I'll be about 1/2 hour away from Appleton in Brillion. If you're still interested at that time I'm sure we could meet and greet. Robert
  5. Got my brake and lamp inspection done Friday at Culver Motor Clinic. Went well with just two hiccups: Firstly, if you have the upgraded brakes on the front like I do then the SV spec sheet doesn't quite spec the rotors correctly. They called Caterham USA but before they got an answer the brake inspector was able to calculate what the min spec would be (since it was an obvious new build) and then verify that they're not at min! Good work there. Then when I was all done and ready to leave, I went to turn right onto Jefferson but then my blinkers no longer worked!! Eh? Didn't I just get my slip saying the car passed lamp inspection?? The guys came out to help, I had my build manual with me, and after some poking around it turns out the hazards switch wasn't fully back to OFF position so the blinker switch was still disabled. Poke at the hazard switch and the blinkers started working again. That was weird! So if you're going for your brake inspection and you have the upgraded rotors you might need some additional info. The min spec didn't seem to be stamped on the edge either... Robert
  6. Next time anyone asks me what it's like to drive a Seven I'll just show them pic #1!! pretty much says it all right there!
  7. I actually hate any trike/3 wheeler... Why? Well, as a motorcyclist for 100k miles I can see the appeal of this type of vehicle - open like a bike but easier to ride. The problem I have with these kinds of vehicles is that they have all the disadvantages of both cars and bikes: Open to the weather like a bike, but wide like a car so you can't split lanes. Here in SoCal that's gold...! Just my opinion, I could be wrong...
  8. Ah, so they want to make sure the rotors aren't too thin, eh? Good to know, I'll make sure I have that number before going. My brake reservoir has the low level sensor with check button so that's good. Can't wait 'til this is all over!
  9. Ok, this is cutting it close. After weeks of trying to get schedules they're all coming in fast and furious. My VIN inspection at the CHP is scheduled for April 27 - just three days before my temp permit expires! The smog ref refuses to give me an appointment date until after the CHP VIN check, but says they usually get you in the same week so that might just work. Lastly I'll be in Culver City this Friday for the brake/ light inspection. Should be easy, just one thing: what kind of "specs" will they want to know regarding our brakes?? He asked when I mentioned they just did a seven a few weeks ago...
  10. This thing is NUTS! I've only gone around the block (and around, and around, and, well you get the idea) but have stomped on the gas more than once and it's quite ridiculous the power! I'm running the 2.1L Duratec with some Cosworth go-faster bits in there so I should be doing 210Hp somewhere in the powerband. I'm sure I'll hit it someday. Got a small oil leak coming from what looks to be the bottom of the engine somewhere (since I can't see anything from above with the bonnet off...) and it's minor anyway so I should get that squared away without too much fuss. I'm thinking the fittings around the oil filter that go to/from the oil cooler based on the position of the leak when you move the car. Can't wait to get some mountain/canyon time in this thing... I'll try to keep if off the canyon walls! Robert
  11. I can't wait to get better acquainted!
  12. Update 5mar2010: In short, "Red" has just been picked up in MA and in just 10 short days should be rolling up to my house in LA. Woo Hoo!! Ok, NOW I'm starting to freak out!
  13. I'd have to agree the pics are stellar, the writing not do much... Picked up another mag when looking for this one, called "complete kit car magazine" or something similar from the UK. Lots of cool stuff in that one!!!
  14. I haven't thrown up a rooster tail in decades, though that's how I learned to ride motorcycles. Bought the V you see in my avatar in ought 2, and have punched out over 100k already. My 7, coming in the next couple weeks, is the first new car purchase ever for me. Before that was the V, also purchased new and first vehicle I ever purchased new, too. But I digress...
  15. Nice read! Reminds me of when I bought my Harley sight unseen in El Paso and rode it home to Cali. A good test of both machine and man.
  16. Totally NOT cool in high school. Geek/nerd patrol for sure, but has kept me in good stead professionally since then...
  17. 10 of us SB-100 nuts went through Thousand Oaks DMV. Down from 16 last year...
  18. It _should_ be done by know but I've not heard from chris in a couple weeks. The other reg steps would be the CHP vin check, brake and lights, stuff like that. But I can now drive her on the street, once she arrives and I get some insurance that is...
  19. Hey guys, once again thanks for all the advice and previous experiences - really helped vet this done. And done it is!! 10 of us looking for SB100 numbers this morning, and all 10 of us got 'em! So glad that's done... Time to get the 7 shipped and on to the next reg steps.
  20. When Pasadena DMV was checking over my papers they said nada about paying anything right then. Just the usual "get there early..." etc. You mean everyone who'll be lined up tomorrow morning will have already paid?? This doesn't bode well...
  21. Just a couple more days. The anticipation is getting excruciating!! So here's something I totally forgot to ask at the DMV when they were checking over my paperwork: So what's this going cost anyway? I've got MA sales tax shown on the bill of sale so I shouldn't get hit with any of that, but title and docs and all the other fees will add up to ...? Want to make sure I gots enough $$ in the bank on Monday. Would hate to get aced out due to low fundage!! Robert
  22. So here's where we are: Got the paperwork for the DMV run on January 4th: mso, bill of sale for chassis, and bill of sale for engine/trans. Went to DMV the day before yesterday and had all my papers checked and they verified I've got the right forms and such. So in a few days I'll be nice and cold hanging out at the DMV office extra early with other lunatics trying to get our SB-100 numbers before they run out. Just like getting concert tickets back before online sales, eh? Robert
  23. Full details still pending. Should have the 210hp Duratec in it. And not that it's anyone's business, but I'm not made of money and in fact would have preferred to keep the purchase price of my seven considerably lower than what this one will be once all is said and done. I'll be stretching myself pretty thin on this one, but when opportunity knocks...
  24. Once I've finalized the sale, and it looks like I will the next day or so, I'll let you know!
