  3. Sharing some incredibly sad news... We've lost Dave Bean. Dave passed away early yesterday, Sunday Aug 13. Dave was more than a place to go for parts and advice. Dave was a fellow Lotus enthusiast, a fellow racer, but more importantly a dear dear friend. Just a couple of years ago a group of us went to Dave and Roberta's property to help sort through the ashes of their home that was destroyed in the Butte Fire. Through all of the soot and dust Dave remained focused and appreciative. It wasn't until late in the day when we were able to get his gun safe with his collection to the shop that the veneer of strength cracked when it was realized his prized collection was reduced to charcoal. That day there were smiles, laughter, friendship and sadness. We were privileged to share that day with Dave and Roberta. (photo attached, Dave on the right, with what remained of their home) Our hearts go out to Roberta and the Dave Bean Engineering family and, of course, we offer them our support during this time. RIP Dave. We miss you!!! Kiyoshi Kiyoshi
  4. The Lego manual is hundreds of pages long. The kit has 771 pieces. I suspect this is far fewer pieces than my 1:1 kit. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11788&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11789&stc=1
  5. Lego Ideas Caterham Seven is NOW AVAILABLE!!! Picked up one at Toys R Us. So cool!!! http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11782&stc=1
  6. Come join the GGLC at Crows Landing this Saturday for an enjoyable day of autocrossing! Our events typically sell-out, but late in the season (Oct and Nov events) we have extra room. We can easily handle 10-12 more drivers. For more info and to register go to http://www.gglotus.motorsportreg.com. Registration closes on Weds 10/7. For this event we will have 2 run groups. Each group will get a morning session and another in the afternoon. You'll get at least 5 runs per session. Lunch is included. Cost is $65/driver for GGLC members. If you need more details email autox"at"gglotus.org Cheers, Kiyoshi
  7. Sean, I recognize Gary's name, but I don't know for sure if or how he may have been impacted by the Butte Fire. Ken or Tommy at DBE might know. However if he lives where I think he does, then that area was likely evacuated but not harmed. Cheers, Kiyoshi
  8. We posted a few photos from Saturday's Work Crew at Dave & Roberta's on the GGLC Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... amp;type=3 The Saturday team got so much done that Dave asked us to cancel the Sunday team! It at times difficult emotionally for Dave. There was hope that some of their personal objects and collectible had survived the inferno, but as we uncovered more and more the reality of the destruction real hit them. Virtually nothing survived. The heat was so intense that even cast iron fry pans warped and folded. And safes which were there to protect their contents became intense kilns. And more.... The day wasn't all sad, there were some lighter moments like this... The guy running in the vid is Barry Spencer of Spencer's Motorsports. It was kind of humorous to see Barry's "Oh Sh*t" reaction! And it's reaffirming that even in today's world people have big hearts and it isn't all about shooting and looting. Here's a few words that Dave shared, "The modern world seems to changed a lot from my youth. One no longer expects this kind of sacrifice and good neighbor atitudes that I just witnessed. It seems I've badly underestimated the modern world, and that people are still giving and helpful." The recovery for the Beans has only begun, but it's the outpouring of thoughts and energy that has made just a tiny bit easier for them. Cheers, Kiyoshi
  9. My apologies in advance for going a bit off topic... VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP THE BEANS!!! When: Saturday 9/26 and Sunday 9/27 at 9:30am to ???? Meet at 9:30 am at: Dave Bean Engineering 636 E St Charles St San Andreas, CA 95249 Some of you may have heard the recent Butte Fire destroyed the home of Dave & Roberta Bean. For decades they (Dave Bean Engineering) have helped the GGLC and Lotus and Seven enthusiasts. Now the Beans need our help!!! Join the GGLC work crews on either Saturday 9/26 or Sunday 9/27. We will have crews both days. You can help either day or both. Meet at Dave Bean Engineering at 9:30am and we will car pool to their property. IMPORTANT - Bring heavy durable gloves and a dust mask. Wear heavy protective shoes (if possible). If you have a shovel or rake, please bring it. Please let us know what day (Saturday or Sunday or both) you can help by emailing Kiyoshi at webguy"at"gglotus.org Many Thanks, The Golden Gate Lotus Club
  10. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! From zero ideas I've gone to at least a half dozen in the greater Bay Area. Cheers, Kiyoshi
  11. Awesome! Thanks Chris, I'll give him a call. BTW, I did have a decent conversation with Gromm Racing this afternoon. I'm going to check them out. And, I need to call Bob Wirth and see if he's interested. At this point I just need the work done. I know it's not going to be cheap. Cheers, Kiyoshi
  12. It's combination of pressures and changes... A) Engines and engine parts are disposable. Don't fix you replace. B) Young'uns are digital, everything is done on your phone or internet. And the true artisan machinist are retiring with no one to take over their businesses C) Cities are zoning out auto related business because they are "dirty". The costs and regulations for a machine shop are mind boggling. D) Tuning for HP is done more from a laptop than porting or profiling a cam It's sad. But, makes it a challenge to keep a classic car going. For my saga it's looking like the nearest shop is in Livermore or Santa Rosa. Cheers, Kiyoshi
  13. I'm rebuilding the Kent engine in my Seven. All the engine machine shops that I once used are closed! Does anyone have a recommendation on for a engine machine shop in the San Jose California area that is familiar with the Kent engine? Thanks! Kiyoshi webguy"at"gglotus.org
