Does the car have a functional carbon canister? It is designed to mop up fuel vapour. Carbs especially will evaporate all the fuel in the floats - not sure about your car.

If you want to play with colour combinations, try the FM Westfield Configurator. Besides, it is fun to make really ugly colour combinations! http://www.flyinmiata.com/westfield/configurator.php

Help with tires (and wheels) for a Zetek powered Birkin S3
turboeric replied to oneprw's topic in General Sevens Discussion
You'll have far more choice going with 225/45x15 and 195/50x15. Not much difference in diameter in the fronts, but a much wider selection of tires. -
Actually, what Mr. Block is proposing is gymkhana (updated), which has a long history in the UK and for which 7s are often the weapon of choice. E.g. YouTube - 7 Gymkhana

We don't seem to have recognized that with every increase in "security theatre", the bad guys have changed their approach to compensate. Ultimately, I suspect any improvement in security is illusory, while the loss of liberty, privacy, dignity and enjoyment in travelling is very real. We lose, while the bad guys are merely inconvenienced.

Boy, those Caddies don't handle very well. Spinning on the straights, nearly spinning into each other, cornering on 2 wheels! But seriously - vanquishment??? Does that mean Aston Martin-like?

In the 80s, a friend of mine owned a somewhat tired Datsun 240Z. It ran well, but occasionally would refuse to run for no apparent reason. It was clearly an ignition problem, but all the components checked out. However, one of the coil wires disappeared through the firewall in an unusual way, so we traced the wire. It ended up under the driver's seat, where a previous owner had installed a hidden kill switch, presumably as an anti-theft device. The switch was faulty and would only connect intermittently. We weren't surprised when we noticed "LUCAS" emblazoned on the side of the switch housing. The only Lucas part on the whole car, and it failed.

Sounds like KC stands for Keystone Cops! What doofusses. (Doofi?)

I think the price is quite reasonable if you compare it to a similarly hand-built Caterham. I used to think the Seven community was weight obsessed, but we are needlessly using an extra wheel for no good reason!:jester:

Wouldn't want to be this guy's passenger . . . .

I'm not sure I'd want to be driving the raggedy edge like that without better rollover protection. -
I like this thread - I can show it to my wife to prove why it was an immensely sensible and responsible thing to do to buy the Westfield kit! :jester:

So far, virtual laps are all anyone can do on this circuit. Will it be ready? It occurred to me as I watched, that throw some cycle fenders on those cars and they'd make pretty good 7's! :jester:

Someone called me a dirty old man. I was shocked. I don't think of myself as old.....

Have you checked out the Falken Azenis RT615K? They come in a 195/60x14 and are fairly cheap. Also the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec and the Yoko AVS ES100 come in 14 inch.

Understeer is often a symptom of entering the corner too fast. When you find the car pushing, you'll need to enter the corner slower and get on the power sooner to induce some oversteer to get it to turn in. Then you can start changing the car. I'd echo what the others have said - learn the rules for your class, then make decisions about autocross tires.

Actually, they're ibex, which are a type of antelope.

Sounds like you're about a decade or so behind me (I'm 57). I've done the junior executive thing twice now, once in an entrepreneurial business and now in academia (chair of the department). Both times I've found the cost to my enjoyment in life was too great, and I'm looking forward to being finished my term as chair. No-one ever lay dying thinking "I wish I spent more time at work." Two thoughts for you. I recently lost my dearest friend of 42 years to cancer, so have been feeling rather mortal. Our time here is finite and short, so don't waste it doing what you dislike. A new job or new challenge can be extremely invigorating, but it can eat up a lot of time. So do something you love. However, the thing you love isn't necessarily going to be your work. If you can look at work as the necessary evil that allows you to do what you love, it may be better. Kind of like wrenching on the car to allow yourself more blatting time. Also, sometimes a lateral move can provide some spice to your work life - a change is as good as a rest. The short answer is that there is no clear answer. It's all a question of balance. How much money do you need to live the life you want, and how much will earning that money interfere with the life you want. No-one but you can answer that.

As a relative newbie here (at least there's some part of me that's new!), I looked around for info on how to become a member, cost, etc. and couldn't find that information. As a result of this thread, I've now found it and will sign up as soon as Pay Pal says "Klaatu barada nikto". It might be worthwhile making that info easier to find.

No special advice, except to be careful what you wish for. My uncle, who was a successful racer in the 60s, retired from that to run a high performance shop in partnership with his mechanic. He got so sick of trying to make a bunch of skin-flint car abusers happy that he got out of the business and hasn't played with cars since.

Don't know what your setup looks like, but ducting is incredibly important for cooling. Air is lazy and will spill around your radiator, rather than going through it, if given a chance. From years of playing with my turbo Miata, I've found that well sealed ducting makes a bigger difference than anything else.

That's part of the climb up from Christina Lake, above the Paulson Bridge, which is a very long, steep climb. Some good corners on that road, and with the repaving, it no longer threatens to swallow small cars whole. I imagine you had fun!

Normally, you can see the offset cast into the wheel somewhere. It will say ETxx, where xx is the offset in millimeters.
