  1. Thanks for the replies guys. I had a feeling they were sourced from Triumph, or possibly Ford, but I wasn't sure. So are they the same on both front and rear, or are they different sizes?
  2. Hi all, I'm curious if anyone here knows whether the standard brake rotors (not the upgraded versions) used on Caterham S3 De Dion (non-SV) cars are only available from Caterham or if they can be sourced from other vehicle application(s)? Thanks very much in advance. Cheers!
  3. There's a couple of really good YouTube videos on how to rebuild/reassemble Weber DCOE carbs. The two videos show a 45 DCOE, but the 40s are essentially the same. 45 DCOE 13 Weber Assembly Video Part 1: 45 DCOE 13 Weber Assembly Video Part 2:
  4. UPDATE: I found it!!! Turns out the serial number is a vertical series of 2 letters and 6 numbers (8 digits in total) on the left hand side of the main casing. It was really hard to see - the years of crud and oxidation have made it almost impossible to make out even in the best lighting conditions. But after a bit of brake clean and some scrubbing with a rag, I managed to make out the faint stamp marks. I took a digital photo of it using the flash so it's easy to make it out now.
  5. Hi Tom. Thanks for the reply. I'd appreciate it if you would look on the T9s you have to see if you can find a serial number. The one I have is in the garage now, and I'll go look at it again to see if I've missed it, but maybe you'll have better luck. Let me know if you find anything. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the reply. I've looked all over the transmission and can't seem to find any sign of a serial number. There's lots of casting numbers, but nothing that looks like an engraved and/or unique serial number. I know on T5 transmissions there's a small metal tag with a serial number that's bolted to the side of the case, but there's no such thing on the T9 that I've seen... nor is there any sign that there might have been at any point either. I'll go out and take a look at the transmission again to make sure I haven't missed it. My concern is that it'll get 'flagged' as an issue when I do eventually install it in the car and attempt to register it. Michigan requires documented proof of ownership of an assembled vehicle's major components (engine, transmission, frame, etc...). I bought the transmission used from a reputable shop but didn't get a receipt or Bill of Sale. I'm sure I could get the seller to give me a receipt or sign a Bill of Sale for me (it wasn't that long ago that I bought it) but how would anyone know the transmission in the car is THE transmission I purchased without a serial...?
  7. Hi all, Does anyone here know where the serial number is located on a Ford Type 9 five-speed transmission? The transmission itself came out of an XR4Ti, but it's slated to be installed in a Caterham kit. The serial number is going to prove important when I go to register the vehicle. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.
  8. PM on the way re: rain/back-up lights.
  9. I've been in contact with Craig already, but thank you for the suggestion.
  10. Interested. PM on it's way.
  11. Hi all, I have a quick question: how do you remove the front crankshaft seal from the chain cover of a Ford Crossflow engine? The one I'm trying to remove seems to be made of metal and rubber and is press-fit into the cover itself. Just curious if there's any trick(s) to remove this seal. Thanks very much in advance.
  12. Go to the Blipshift website and click on the "Our Garage" link at the top of the page. There, you'll see all the retired Blipshift shirts; you'll recognize the design of the Se7en shirt immediately.
  13. EXCELLENT! I think we're getting closer to a definitive answer. Thanks for chiming in twobone! Now, if you don't mind me asking, did you (or a previous owner) build the car or was it a turn-key car? Not knowing the history of your car - and given the bespoke nature of Sevens in general - I'm only asking because even though the chassis is an '89, the engine may be been assembled after the chassis was built. And as was mentioned earlier, I don't know when the 40 DCOE 151s were introduced.
  14. Hi Carl, That's a very good question. Yes I am... sort of. I've purchased a pair of matched 40DCOE2s with the intention of installing them on a Crossflow which is slated for a Caterham Seven. I've always been a huge fan of the Prisoner Edition cars but with only about 40 built the chances of ever getting a genuine Prisoner car - especially one here in the U.S. - is almost impossible. So I figure I'll build my own (I realize it'll be a replica, which I'm ok with). And being a sufferer of severe Automotive OCD, I'd like it to be as accurate as possible. So I'm contemplating selling the pair of Webers I have and getting a 'period correct' set. Which is why I had originally asked whether anyone knows what series of the 40 DCOE was fitted to the Prisoner edition cars. Are you planning to install FI on the Crossflow, or will be conducting a full Zetec/Duratec conversion?
  15. Thanks! This corresponds perfectly with what was stated earlier about Caterham Academy cars being equipped with 151s as far back as 1995. Excellent! Now, if someone with an '89 or '90 Caterham, equipped with a crossflow and Webers would chime in, I think we'd have a definitive answer.
  16. You're not way off at all Steve. The series number following the carb model number (ie. 40DCOE2 or 40DCOE32, where the "2" and "32" respectively denote the series) do, generally speaking, relate to the age of the carburetor. So as such, a series 2 carb would have been built before a series 9, which came before a series 18, and so on. And while the 151s are indeed made in Spain, I don't know when within the series production moved from Italy to Spain, nor do I know what series was being produced by Weber during the late 80s/early 90s when the Prisoner Edition cars were available.
  17. Thanks for your response. I have a feeling that you might be right on this. The only info I've been able to find is that the Caterham Academy cars equipped with Ford Kent Crossflows were fitted with 151s from '95-'97. However, the Prisoner Edition 7 was introduced in 1989. I know the 151s are the current 40 DCOE offering from Weber if purchased new today, but were the 151s available from Weber in '89?
  18. I bought the original version in red and received it about a week ago. Unfortunately, I bought a medium when I should have bought a large. Oh well... I'm keeping it since I really like the design (the shirt material quality isn't the best though). I'm expecting my next blipshift order today - a large "Never Stop Ringing" hoodie. If it fits well and the quality is good, I'll definitely be ordering at least one large T-shirt and one large hoodie before the day is out. UPDATE: just received my large "Never Stop Ringing" hoodie from blipshift. Excellent quality item! Much higher quality than their T-shirts. So if anyone here is wondering if they should get the hoodie, don't hesitate. I'll be placing my order for both a T and hoodie in the next few minutes. Cheers!
  19. Hi all, This is going to sound like a very obscure question, but does anyone know which version Weber 40 DCOE carburetors were fitted to the Prisoner Edition Caterhams? When I say "version" I'm referring to the digits following the 40 DCOE designation (ie. 2, 18, 32, 151, etc...). I'm primarily interested in the 40 DCOE versions fitted to the Ford Kent Crossflow engined cars; the BDR equipped cars had 45 DCOEs I believe. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance. Cheers!
  20. Hi all, I just picked up a set of Caterham Prisoner Edition wheels that came without center caps. So I'm now in need of a set of center caps. Caterham HPC wheels used the same centre caps as the Prisoner Edition wheels. If you have (or know of) a set for sale, please reply to this post or send me a PM on the forum here. Thanks very much in advance.
  21. Thanks again Bruce. I just signed up with the Sevens mailing list and have submitted my question. With luck, someone will be able to help out. Thanks again!
  22. Hi Bruce. Thanks for the information. I found the link to Andy Wilrshire's website while researching Lotus 7 fuel tank dimensions. Impressive workmanship, but his website didn't list dimensions (other than fuel capacity). Your photo is of great help though, definitely a great starting point for what I need. Based on the dimensions in the image you've posted, I believe the Series 1 fuel tank is smaller than the Series 2 tank, but I don't know by how much and where the differences are. I believe it's shorter (less than 790mm as indicated) but again I'm not sure. I guess the research continues.... Thanks again for the help. Greatly appreciated. Cheers!
  23. Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone here can help. I'm looking for the overall fuel tank dimensions for a Lotus 7 series 1 or series 2 fuel tank. Pictures would be brilliant, but I'm primarily interested in overall dimensions. Any help at all would be highly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.
  24. They aren't $60 each from Caterham or Redline... they're £60 each. And at the current rate of exchange, that's $96.27. Far cry from $60.
