Current business requirements have me in St.L, or Akron only in US. After that it is Brazil and Malysia (and the roads in Brazil are NOT 7 friendly). -

Anytime is fine for me - just give me a few hours notice. (Are you sure we won't all be under water this time tomorrow ?) -

O.K. - I'm here in town, on your time zone :-) Any of the nights are good for me. Your call. I'm staying at the Doubletree Hotel in Chesterfield (16625 Swingley Ridge Road) tel 636-532-5000 and working at Solutia HQ at 575 Maryville Centre Drive 63141 just off I-40 Exit 22/23 until about 17.30 or so each night. I'm in a conference room all day but the number is 674 3976 (and my mobile is +44771767882 ) if you need to make contact with me. Just let me know when and I'll make every effort to get to you guys (or you come to me and make life so much more simple for "the dumb Brit"). -
I run with this radiator here http://www.radtec.co.uk/index.php?p0=detail&id=227&cpid=&cid=56&partNo=RC7 on both a (reasonably) hi power x-flow and a suitably tweaked 16v GM unit - and it copes well. Unfortunately NOT cheap in UK and so even worse in US.

Steve, you should have a message, Dave. -
A few comments from a serial x-flow user/killer :- 1/. From experience the Roger King mod is a good idea. 2/. If you have the original rolled/pressed steel rocker cover then use the cork gasket, if you have an Aluminium Sprint or Supersprint or any other aftermarket rocker cover then recommendation is to use a paper/card gasket. 3/. Clean both surfaces well. It is fine to use small (repeat) small quantities of sealant on both sides of the gasket. 4/. Don't overtighten - especially with the cork variant. 5/. The vent tank is where the engine should vent to (originally it vented back to one of the carbs) and not onto the engine/windshield. So if it is not - then something is likely to be blocked. 6/. I have pictures of the RK mod somewhere - if you don't find links already there on Blatchat. DAve.

Update - comfirmed arrival in St.L 5/8/11, departing 5/20/11, hopefully have some free time over weekend of 14 and 15th, or possibly even one evening for a beer/chat. Staying at Doubletree in Chesterfield. Will bring some pictures of the 50th Anniv meet + recent trip to Kit Car Show in Stoneleigh (+ my cars of course :-) ) -
I was going to send you the DVA info on Webers until I noticed that BSIMON had put a link in to it. Also - check the sealing of teh rear carb onto inlet manifold. Potential leak in the "o"-ring (or misab is you have those fitted instead) could also cause the symptoms you mention. Go to Blatchat, search on Tech talk using a Boolean search, say for (weber)and(jetting) and see what comes up. Try this link http://blatchat.com/t.asp?id=50855 (sorry, can't do linky thing on this forum yet).

Blatchat calling - thouhg not a real Weber expert. 2.5 p.s.i. COULD possibly overcome the float valve if it is in poor condition. Spitting back IS a sign of weakness of mixture as JohnCh says. I have a 5 hr layover in JFK this Sunday 8th May and can bring you a workshop manual on Webers if you fancy it - seriously (also have a set of twin 40's in the garage jetted for a 1700 s/sprint but I don't think US Customs woould be happy if I brought those). Will try and dig out my jetting info and post back or e-mail. Dave

Message from across the pond (I was surfing and saw this). Don't know what engine you have in the Westie, but fitting a good quality, hi-volume fan helped me when I hjad similar problems with a hi-output crossflow (though I did get a bigger rad in the end - another story). Fitting a manual over-ride switch on the dash (with suitable relay) is also a regular mod in the U.K. Helps when sitting in slow moving or stationary traffic.

I'll try and make contact with at least one of you whilst I'm over in May. Possibly back in June also. If any of you need any Caterham items bringing in to "look at" (obviously for import purposes I'd have to take them back to the U.K. Mail me offline if you do. Dave. -

Thanks to Mike for pointing me in this direction, and thanks for the replies so far. I'll not be in St.L on 7th unfortunately so won't be able to join the Lotus Club drive. Weekend of May 14/15th I should hopefully have some free time. Dave M
