  1. Rain was in the forecast, so turnout was a little lighter than usual. Also, several people left early, to go up to Supercars on State Street. Still, there are always plenty of interesting cars to see! (In the last picture, it seems nobody told this guy that they DON'T use stick-on letters on Formula 1 cars...) That's Kevin K. (LotusMan1951) and his Fisher Fury, for sale... --Bob Collum
  2. It was pretty hot today, so attendance was down a bit, in both locations. --Bob Collum
  3. Some pictures from Katie's today. I finally got the 'wind wings' mounted on my Seven - the amazing handiwork of Jim Hurd! VW of America is based nearby - they brought out the 34th-from-last original Beetle. This one was manufactured in Mexico in 2003. --Bob Collum
  4. ...I did see this out front... I wonder if this would work well in the Seven? --Bob
  5. The one on the lift is my car. I was getting the 'anti-squeal' belt mod done, along with a couple of other minor items. In addition to what you say is Doug's car, there was the 40th anniversary car mentioned, and an SV. The Devin on the side was very pretty. I did NOT see a Miura engine. I'd like to meet a guy who has both a Caterham Superlight and a Miura! --Bob Collum
  6. I went up to George Alderman's shop, in New Castle, Delaware to have some work done. I took some pictures while I was there... The ERA GT40 belongs to a guy at the plumbing supply business next door. --Bob Collum
  7. A nice Sunday morning, though foggy. I was surprised to see the first car below - it was even smaller than my Seven! (I don't know what it is.) --Bob Collum
  8. A great Saturday morning at Katie's. Ned was there today, and he is selling his '72 Lotus Seven S4. Details in the first picture. --Bob
  9. If there are more of the Torpedo, Zausner's was first, as I understand it. Eric was a Ferrari-collector, years ago, but decided his real love was hot rods, or more to the point, 'customs'. He liked the idea of using the potent V12 and trans from a Ferrari 550, and he had Moal build the Torpedo around that. Each of the Moal creations starts with a seminal idea - one was the front suspension from an old Indy car. Another was inspired by WWII-era planes. Eric lived in the DC area, years ago. When he semi-retired, he moved back here from SF. Here are some pictures I have taken of his Moals. --Bob Collum
  10. Other Moal hotrods that we see at our local Cars & Coffees -
  11. This one? It's a Moal Torpedo. Custom-made hot rod, with a Ferrari 550 V12 and gearbox. The owner has 5 (very) different hot rods by Steve Moal. http://autoweek.com/article/car-news/when-worlds-collide-eric-zausners-torpedo-blend-classic-ferrari-and-hot-rod --Bob Collum
  12. A gorgeous morning - I used two Cars & Coffee events as a 'warm-up' to our drive to lunch in Upperville, VA. --Bob Collum
  13. With 2016 over half over, Katie's is just hitting its stride. I won't bore with the cars you've already seen; here are some new ones! Mark Franke can't always get up this early, because he's old. His Esprit is great, though! Other new & old stuff we hadn't seen before - The new 2017 Acura NSX. A Mille Miglia Chrysler. A Cobra Daytona Coupe replica. The new, Miata-based Fiat 124 Spyder. --Bob Collum
  14. Only three Lotus there on July 4th weekend - I thought we'd have many more. A good variety of cars, though. --Bob Collum
  15. Katie's is becoming a regular hotbed of people on this forum. I met Dave, with his Caterham 7 there today. I also saw Kevin K (LotusMan1951) drive in. We had two Stanley Steamers, and a Ferrari Daytona. Not a bad day, at all! --Bob Collum
  16. A beautiful morning for a drive. A perfect day for a quick stop at Dulles Landing around 6:45AM, and a drive over to Fairfax Corner at 8:15AM. --Bob Collum
  17. A gorgeous morning, with a predictably great turnout at Katie's. Two Sevens there today - Michael D's & mine. The white XKE was just finished, from a full restoration. It's amazing how great it looks without bumpers! --Bob Collum
  18. A beautiful morning. As you'd expect, a good crowd at both Dulles Landing, and at Fairfax Corner, later in the morning. --Bob Collum
  19. Bentley USA (part of the VW Group) brought over a couple of new vehicles, including their SUV, the Bentayga. A local dealer for Superlite brought a couple of their cars. A strange 3-wheeler was there; I never did find out what that was. The Porsche Speedster was an interesting piece. I was told the engine was a 911 6-cylinder, with two cylinders lopped off. The front suspension was from a 944. It was VERY well done, from what I could tell. Finally, 'stance'... What can I say - when I was 3, many of my toy cars had the wheels splayed like that. I got over it - let's hope this guy does, too! --Bob Collum
  20. A really good turnout today; the front lot at Katie's was full by 6:15AM! A good amount of Lotus there today, but mine was the only Seven. --Bob Collum
  21. The yellow-and-blue Porsche? That's Bob Williams. He also owns a beautiful Lister Jaguar replica with the same paint job. He is an occasional visitor at Katie's on Saturdays, and sometimes at one of the Sunday Cars & Coffees, at either Dulles Landing or Fairfax Corner. --Bob Collum
  22. An overcast morning cut back a little on attendance today - but not much. I met an Esprit owner; first time he's had it out to Katie's. An Elise owner who just bought an Alfa 4C Spyder brought it out. --Bob Collum
  23. A glorious morning - clear, and warm. We had, by official count, 29 Lotus in attendance. Several new people showed up, along with a lot of returning regulars. There was pretty good variety of cars - Elise, Exige, Evora, Esprit, Sevens and a 340R. We had a popular-vote 'Favorite Lotus' contest. Norm & I brought our Sevens. Afterwards, many of us drove out to Quattro Goomba's winery & brewery in Aldie, VA for lunch. Good weather, a great bunch of people, and a large amount of interesting Lotus. A weekend just doesn't get much better than this - thanks, everyone, for making this happen! --Bob Collum
  24. More interesting stuff from today. --Bob Collum
