This is the 'Lotus kart', though I understand they are built by 'Wildkart', and I do not know how much Lotus engineering is in them. http://lotuskarts.com/ --Bob Collum -
Several Interesting Cars This Past Weekend
rcollum replied to rcollum's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Tom, you had Norm's Seven correct. Skip, absolutely correct - that is the Barber Museum's Lotus Type 119 gravity racer. The others - Michael D.'s BMW had to stand in for his Seven, which he's still working on. My wife and I drove up to the party from Virginia, she in the Elise, and I in the Seven. Michael came up the entrance ramp to 495, honking and waving. I thought it was some crazy man, but saw the 'Lotus' on the hood, and at least I knew where the crazy man was going. He helped us take a route to avoid most of the traffic. The Prisoner Edition Seven is Kevin McGovern's. The Fisher Fury I saw at Katie's Cars & Coffee in Great Falls VA, on Saturday morning. I chatted briefly with Kevin Kearney, the owner. Below is Norm B's trailer and tow vehicle, and the view over our Seven's bonnet of our Elise. --Bob Collum -
I saw some cars & people of interest to this group this past Saturday, 08/29/15. Who can recognize the cars by owners? Extra points for anyone who knows what the second vehicle is. --Bob Collum

You're absolutely right, Paul - thank you. I have corrected my post to reflect the dates of the Princeton Lotus Owners Gathering being August 4th thru 8th, 2016. The newly-created LOG 36 website is here - http://www.lotusownersgathering36.com/ (That's my red Elise in the upper-righthand corner of the LOG 36 website!) --Bob Collum -

More than Sevens here, but I have met several Seven owners, and I am gathering good information! --Bob Collum -
Lots of interesting cars here, not the least of which are lots of Sevens! --Bob Collum

Thanks, Mike - I'm enjoying your car! --Bob Collum 2006 Caterham 7 SVT (bought)

It has the DeDion rear, a Zetec SVT engine, and a 5-speed. 14" wheels. Never had a spare - just looks like the bracket that should hold the rear plate is missing.Did our first blat today, filled the tank, and took it to a Highway Patrol weigh station. Full tank, no driver - 1320 lbs! (My Europa was 1475 lbs, and my Elise is 1975 lbs.) I can see that my wife will be wanting to drive this every weekend!--Bob Collum

I think it's appropriate that the first place I post a picture of this car is on this forum, since I found this car via Croc's "lots of Sevens for sale" thread. Thanks for that! I've been on the Seven periphery for a long while. I have owned two Lotus, a '72 Europa Twincam for 21 years (sold in 2001), and still have the '07 Elise we bought new in 2007. I've known I wanted a Seven since I first drove one, probably over 20 years ago. Circumstances finally fell into place recently, and my wife is as excited about the new purchase as I am! My first order of business is to find a rear license plate frame, since I have the rear plate light fixture, but can't see a way to mount a plate. --Bob Collum

I am in the beginning stages of looking for a Caterham. My question is, does anyone have fairly recent experience getting a car from another state (titled an a 60's-era Lotus 7) titled in Virginia? I understand that the motivation to register the car as a 'continuation' or 'replica' is to avoid extensive emissions testing. I just need to know if it will be possible to register in VA, given the discrepancy between what it is, and what the title says it is. I understand that there is some requirement to be able to prove that major components (chassis and engine) are not stolen. I'm hoping Caterham USA can provide something like an archive document, proving they sold the chassis. I'd have to rely on the owner to provide a document proving they bought the engine installed. Am I missing anything? --Bob Collum

Carlisle Import and Kit Car- May 15-17
rcollum replied to mg1500's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Do we know if there will be any Caterhams at Carlisle this coming Saturday, 5/16/15? I'm planning on being in the market for a Caterham as soon as my Jaguar sells, but I will first need to know what I don't fit in! Thanks, --Bob Collum -

What is GYLO? Get Your Lotus Out (GYLO) is a simple concept. We wait until the snow, salt & ice are gone, and ask people to come on out, driving their favorite car. We have been doing this, two times a year, since 2011; this is our ninth GYLO. It's a good excuse to drive your car, and meet up with similar-minded, fun people. Where is GYLO? We hold GYLO alongside the weekly Cars & Coffee at East Market at Fair Lakes - there's a Kohl's and a Dick's Sporting Goods in the complex. East Market at Fair Lakes is about a 5 minute drive from the intersection of 66 & 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) in Fairfax, VA. You can use your Navigation system or MapQuest this parking lot, using the address for Kohl's - 12551 Fair Lakes Circle Fairfax, VA 22033 When is GYLO? We set this up to run from 8:00AM to 10:00AM, but Mark and I get there to set up around 7:00AM, to be sure we have reserved space for those who RSVP. (Our turnouts have ranged from 20 up to 36 Lotus in past years.) We tally up votes for favorite Lotus, and do the door prize drawings around 10:00AM. Some of us go to brunch around the corner, and some arrange to do a drive from there. GYLO can be a nice, short gathering if you want, or it can be the start of your Lotus day. We hope to see you there. Please forward this information to your Lotus friends! A group of us goes to brunch afterwards, around 10:30AM. Our group gets 15% off brunch at The Blue Iguana restaurant, nearby. Please RSVP to me, so I know how many parking spaces to reserve. We will have a popular vote for 'Favorite Lotus', and a drawing for door prizes. Bring your Lotus (or Se7en) to qualify for either. “Lotus: The Art of Lightness” - Featured Exhibit at the AACA Museum 2015
rcollum replied to DeanG's topic in Mid-Atlantic
Some other Lotus folks and I caravanned up from Northern Virginia to Hershey, PA last Saturday, 3/14/15, to see the exhibit - Lotus: The Art of Lightness. It was foggy and rainy on the way up, but our group did fine. Our transport consisted of 2 Elises, an Exige, an Evora S, a Jaguar XJ, and a Volvo wagon! This exhibit is well worth the drive, and the drive would be nice on a clear day. The exhibit runs thru April 26th. The museum also has some interesting antiques, and I was surprised to see several Tuckers on display there. Here are some pictures I took, leading off (of course) with a Se7en... --Bob Collum -
Sorry, Paul - that's Fairfax, VA. The two venues are - Katie's Coffee 760 Walker Road Great Falls, VA 22066 Saturdays, 6:00 - 9:00 AM Starbuck's East Market at Fair Lakes 12551 Fair Lakes Circle Fairfax, VA 22033 Sundays, 8:00 - 10:30 AM --Bob Collum

Yep - I've been going to Katie's Cars & Coffee in Great Falls, VA since March of 10, before it was an 'official' event. The East Market at Fair Lakes Cars & Coffee (Kohl's, for short) has not been running quite as long. I started attending there in November of 2010, but I certainly wasn't around at the first meet. These two weekly events are interesting enough that I attend both pretty much every week, and take pictures of what shows up. Katie's on Saturday mornings is amazing, and diverse, and starts ungodly early. Kohl's, on Sunday mornings, starts later, and is in a big, open parking lot that allows for more flexibility in grouping similar cars together - the Mopar guys park together every week, as do many others. Because of the layout, I hold specialized meets at Kohl's - twice a year for my Lotus friends and two different days a year for my Jaguar friends. Both these venues (and all the other Cars & Coffee venues I know of, at least locally) draw a great variety of vehicles. Even if you're bored by a garden-variety exotic, or if a muscle car doesn't float your boat, you can see (among other things) a more-than-100-year-old motorized bicycle, a Cessna chassis on a Toyota van frame, an Indycar, a 1960's F1 Cooper, a hand-built Lister-Jaguar replica with a modified Z06 engine, or a VW Type 3 with a Subaru drivetrain, with a sequential gearshift. If you can't find something to interest you, you probably don't really like cars! --Bob Collum P.S.: At one of my 'Get Your Lotus Out' events at Kohl's a couple of years ago, we had 3 Caterhams show up.

We have a Cars & Coffee event every Sunday morning, from around 8:00AM. Turnout is good, even in cold weather like we had today. We have a good mix of foreign/exotics and American iron. A decent turnout today, despite temperatures in the teens (Fahrenheit), and patchy ice on some back roads. Of special interest to this crowd - we had our first Brunton Stalker show up today! --Bob Collum
