have a crack in the differential. Original axle/ diff.

Would it be better to have the crack welded, or is there a better solution. Would like to stay as original as possible, but would also like slightly different gearing for highway at less rpms

Short answer, they all will do that. You can't stay 100% original and have HP and use it. A plate to match the contours or bridge is usually welded on to the axle. For gears, maybe tr7, but that requires different axles and machine work. That to a local vintage racer.

like the idea of welding the crack and adding a bridge across the diff to each side of the axle. May have to suck up the gearing issue.

Thanks for the help.
