scannon
I'm already having electrical problems with the front turn signal/park light fixtures. They come and they go, the problem seems to be in the sockets. I also despise those %#@&ing lenses and retainer rings. I thought I was done with those when I sold my last A-H 3000. I don't much care for the plastic, open bottom housings that came with the Caterham either. Is anyone selling a nice aftermarket assembly to repace this POS? Al N.
Skip- YOu konw whose lights I liked...Deman's. Maybe Seth, Dino, and Paul can help you out. BTW, that guy with the Turbo Miata mill at 7-7-7 was Hekki RK, I think...Locost AutoXer.
Boxologist
i had issues with my front driver's side repeater. turned out the bulb needed to be seated more firmly. other than that, i consider myself sort of lucky. though i do get some wild movement in the oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges. i beleive its the drive belt slipping on the pumps. edit: mine has seen plenty weather, and has withstood it. Ned the Red
This is a little off topic but the "Prince of Darkness" part reminded me of a thread years ago on the Miata web site. Someone made a comment like that there and a reader from the UK logged in and asked what it was all about. Well, the floodgates opened..... Why do the Brits drink their beer warm? Who's the Prince of Darkness? And on and on about Lucas electricals!
scannon
One of the very best Miata license plates I have seen is "NO LUCAS". I was laughing so hard I was nearly on the floor.
SR27.Seth
I found that the key to keeping electrical connections working is to use a corrosion protector when they are assembled and spray everything yearly with a electrical system water repellant- I prefer Repell, made by a company called Drummond and sold through Lawson Products. I had an MGB that I drove year around in the salt and snow- good test vehicle and after replacing all of the Lucas tube connectors with new ones coated in Ox-Gard I never had another electrical issue. In fact I have had more problems with my Ford Sierra rear tail lights and BMW electronics than I have with older british stuff. If you disassemble those flashers and glass bead or sand blast all of the parts then coat them during assembly they will give you years of service. Or as Al mentioned we could sell you a set of flashers- I would just need to know what color to powder coat them b/c they come in a garish chrome finish (and yes when we re-assemble them they are corrosion protected, we try to do everything 'proper'.
