SK400
Greetings fellow 7 fans i'm installing a set of new roller barrels on my r400 and am looking for an R500 carbon airbox as shown in this photo. Please let me know if you have one for sale or know of anyone that may have one. Thank you very much in advance Seb http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12156&stc=
Croc
Hi Seb I was told these airboxes were restrictive on power. I tried to spec my CSR with one and the Caterham UK factory guys talked me out of it as a power downgrade. Are you trying to get around sound limits at Lime Rock? cheers mike
SK400
Mike I was thinking that could be the case unfortunately. That said, my main reason was for esthetics honestly, hiding the sausage filter that comes with the roller barrel kit. Unsure if the setup I now have will be sound restrictive at lime rock yet. I guess we will see this summer. I let you know if I'm black flagged. Mike, do you have another recommendations in place of the sausage filter? Thanks Mike. Croc
Ok - now I understand. I avoided the sausage filter cutout with a small snorkel carbon ram cold air intake. There are 2 Duratec airboxes in case you are not aware: 1) The track day one which would receive a remote cold air intake (or just take it from under bonnet with a cone filter attached) https://caterhamparts.co.uk/other/4649-track-day-airbox-r500-duratec-2008.html?search_query=r500&results=116 2) The race version, better known as the C400 version which is what you put a photo up of https://caterhamparts.co.uk/other/2812-air-filter-cover-race.html?search_query=race&results=224 This is the better one as it allows true cold air intake direct from the source. There are other brands out there for air boxes 1) Bernard Scouse did a range of off the shelf and standard airboxes for caterham. He seems to be showing the K series version and not any Duratec version but I bet they do something for the duratec. They seem to have a good reputation from my reading of Blatchat over the years. http://www.auto-teknix.co.uk/index.html 2) Reverie - be careful with these guys. Its top quality carbon but the fitment is not the easiest (ask me how I know...). Its does not help they are showing K series R500 in photos. https://www.reverie.ltd.uk/caterham_airboxes.php
SK400
Super helpful Mike. thanks a ton for the links. Where the folks at Caterham talking you down from installing the race air box? or the track day one?
Croc
The UK guys said both would sap power over the regular sausage filter but of the two the race box was better because it drew cold air in from outside a closed bonnet in a less restrictive way.
