Caterham vs Westfield diff questions

hi guys!

 

quick (hopefully easy) question. I'd like to buy the diff for sale here:

what I want to confirm first is --- will this 7" Sierra diff out of a Westfield bolt directly into my 1991 Caterham xflow powered T9 5 speed DeDion car? I'm hoping that it is exactly the same diff that I currently have in the car right now.

Todd, after looking at the picture, it sure looks like the standard Caterham diff in my 2000 cat. However, I noticed that the lug on the top is still there. When I built my car that lug needs to be trimmed so that it doesn't interfere with the DeDion Tube. The exact measurement of the amount that needs to be sawed off is in the Caterham build guide. I can look it up if you need it.

Also check the drive axles. Mine is the type that has stubs that go into the differential. That differential has the bolt on flange.

 

darn! I finally had time to go out to the trailer and crawl under the Seven. mine is also the type that has stubs that go into the diff (not the flanges). does anyone know if the flanges can be removed (easily) and if that reveals the standard stub axle female splines to accept my axles? thanks guys!

The Caterham uses splined half shafts that go in to the diff, the one in the picture has a flanged output, not sure what spline is in the diff. Also, you would need to cut that ear on the upper rear of the diff. Caterham provides instructions for how much to cut. That ear would interfere with your DeDion tube unless you cut it off.
