jfgw Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I have an issue with my brakes where I seem to be experiencing a long pedal when braking after corners, but a decent pedal when braking after straights. I've replaced hubs and wheelbearings, believe my discs are true, and am planning to replace brake pads as the least expensive item to try, to see if this solves the problem. Question for the group, having removed the fronts to see what they are, there is just a long code on the back, which I'm not sure what pads they are. Talking to Caterham they say they're probably their Ferodo ones, but the code doesn't look right. I'm thinking perhaps they're Mintex 1144 but wondered if anyone on here can identify? Thanks!
James A Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 Although it's hard to read, the numbers on your pad, after the MXD, looks like 1142 which is the pad compound supplied with the AP 4 pots for the Caterham. The 1142 and 1144 refer to the pad compound. 1142 is a terrific compound for the street and maybe a little track, if you do a lot of track and some street the 1144 is the way to go in my opinion.
jfgw Posted July 1, 2017 Author Posted July 1, 2017 Good info, thanks! I don't see an option on the Caterham website to buy either of those compounds. Do you know what brand they are, and any thoughts on where to source?
James A Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 These guys are really good, fast shipping: https://www.meteormotorsport.com go to their Caterham link on the website, they have a lot of options for the brakes and will spend time on the phone with you to help sort through what you are looking for>
yellowss7 Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 The 1144 are the Mintex pads. That's what came standard on my car with the AP/Caterham 4 pot front uprated brakes. Tom
James A Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Interesting, your car came with 1144s first I've heard of that but a great brake pad! Here is a picture of the front pads I took out of my car with very few miles on it, I replaced them with 1155s which are great for the track as they need some heat to work best.
