RichardSIA
Wish to identify my 4 Spd transmission, ex 1990 Westfield with Kent 1600 I have no idea how to identify this transmission. I know what it came out of but not what it was originally built for. I will be putting it into a "Locost" 442. Hoping to find an aluminum bell housing for it to shed a few pounds. What should I be looking for, casting numbers? If so, where located?
sltous
Take a look at the Burton Power Tuning Guides: https://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides.html They have some photos for each of the gearboxes that are most likely to be the one you have plus some notes on where they came from and relevant parts. This might help you chase down what you have.
RichardSIA
I see a wire brush, spray cleaner, and chalk in my immediate futire. Clean and high-light casting numbers.
RichardSIA
Identified as a Type E Box. Today I set it into the chassis along with the engine. Unless I may find a more compact bell housing the chassis will have to be modified fairly heavily. I see Burton has a unit that allows fitting the starter to either side but that seems like I might lose even more room at the footwell. Ideally I would find an alloy bell with right side starter, any such available?
Croc
I think this is it? Aluminium bellhousing: SOHC Ford Pinto & X/Flow hydraulic to Rocket & 5 Speed Sierra gearbox (burtonpower.com) I can see your issue with space packaging by just looking at the integrated starter design in that bellhousing. Will you be having to cut into the passenger side footwell?
RichardSIA
Looks like it, and seems to be the most expensive option too! Now have to wonder if the left side hydraulic clutch takes less space than a left side starter?
