PhilS4 Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Dear all, Im progressing my build (see separate thread) and I’m moving on to hard brake pipes. Thinking of buying an Automec kit here in the UK. However, I don’t have any photos of the pipe runs and bends. I’m concerned that I really only get 1 chance to shape the pipes! id be eternally grateful if someone with an S4 could post some pictures of the routing of the brake pipes please. The pipes on the rear diff are in place, so it’s the front to back run, the junction area and all around the front suspension that I really need to understand. many thanks, Phil
MV8 Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Not my s4z. Not my boots either. If you need more help routing, take some clear pics of the area we can draw on. P clips ever foot or so generally, gentle bends, cut off 3 inches or so to practice flaring, if bends need to be within 3 inches of the fitting, flare it when straight then bend when assembled.
CarlB Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 I am not familiar with the company you are sourcing the tubing from, but I have some suggestions. Most people use Stainless steel, steel with some type of coating for protection from rust, or nickel copper. You can't use normal copper because of the pressures in brake systems. Nickel copper is much easier to work with than the other two. Stainless is the best looking but very hard to work with.
MV8 Posted June 11, 2022 Posted June 11, 2022 Looks like automec kits are ok if you select a left hand drive kit for the German market. Otherwise, it is just copper line; no nickel. https://www.automec.co.uk/
PhilS4 Posted June 12, 2022 Author Posted June 12, 2022 Thank, yes it seems they have a drop down menu and you can specify either type of pipe.
