Vinman1 Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Hope all are enjoying summer. I am trying to figure out the best Bell housing, Hydraulic clutch set up and source for a Crossflow powered (130Hp+/-) 1979 RHD Seven with a Rocket box transmission. I have the stock clutch arm and aluminum cable Bell housing. Not sure if I need replace these or not. I see offerings from Burton and MotorSport tools, hoping a member has done this change or can let me know what the stock set-up is (i.e. starter on right or left?) Best to all, V
MV8 Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 The starter is on the opposite/curb side for a hydraulic clutch. Why change it to hydraulic?
Vinman1 Posted July 11, 2022 Author Posted July 11, 2022 The bell housing I have has starter on Carb side, which since it is RHD, is the pedal box, and steering gear side, with battery on opposite side. My thoughts are 1) starter closer to battery and easy to remove 2) slave cylinder-clutch release arm closer to pedal box & clutch master cylinder. Frame does not have bracket for cable clutch, and I want to keep as Arch built with no welding mods.
MV8 Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 So yours is the opposite of this '81. I doubt the bell matters except for possibly the depth available for setup of the HRB. Extra space can be shimmed but too little is more difficult. I'd rather have an external slave setup for easier bleeding and replacement.
Vinman1 Posted July 11, 2022 Author Posted July 11, 2022 Yes, mine is opposite, although the Tee with the brake switch is in the same spot. I agree on the external slave cylinder. Motorsport tools has what looks to be the right bell housing, but expensive.
Vinman1 Posted July 19, 2022 Author Posted July 19, 2022 Still looking for inputs. See different set ups, some being internal with many parts and others seem to just add a slave cylinder externally with the cable clutch fork?
MV8 Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 There are several different ways to do it. The easiest, most cost-effective thing you could do would be to fit the cable and weld on the brkt but I understand why you don't want to mod the chassis. Fitting a slave to the original fork is probably not an off-the-shelf package you could buy. It sounds like you probably would be better off with an all original type slave system. It's possible the original cable brkt was removed to convert to hydraulic.
Vinman1 Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 MV8, Agreed. The chassis never had the bracket. I ordered the parts from Burton, all were available except the cylinder nose which is 1-2 weeks lead time. Going to use the stock aluminum bellhousing I have if all fits. Just missing the rubber gaiter, which is not available. Appreciate your inputs. Cheers, Vinman

Vinman1 Posted July 23, 2022 Author Posted July 23, 2022 Saw that and the clip that goes with it. Unfortunatly the gaiter has been out of stock for a while.
MV8 Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 (edited) It's nice to have but not absolutely necessary. Edited July 23, 2022 by MV8
