jbcollier
I haven't driven my 69 Lotus Seven yet but plan on doing at least a few long trips (5k+). This will be my first car without any screen demisting. Are they draughty enough even with the top up that it isn't an issue? Zip out rear window help? RainX anti-fogging help? Can I/Should I fit a heated screen? TIA
MV8
With top and doors on, you might consider a cigar lighter defogger and a fused lead off the battery for no modifications. I think the electric grid demister would be ideal with aux wiring.
jbcollier
Having cut my teeth on air cooled VWs, I was familiar with the dash mounted defroster fan. I found they had decidedly mixed results. Thanks for the nudge about electric grid defrosters. I hadn't realized you could get aftermarket kits for front windshields as well. Definitely will consider getting one. https://www.bimmerworld.com/Safety-Race-Interior/Battery-Electrical/BimmerWorld-Front-Windshield-Defroster-Kit.html Edited February 7, 2023 by jbcollier
Croc
The issue with fogging is that with the top up and the sidescreens on you have created your classic prison sauna. Heat from the engine bay and humidity all round combines to be the fogging agent, particularly with a cold stream of air on the other side of the windscreen. The only real solution is to find a way to vent some of the hot humid air out and replace with some cool external air. Side screen ajar? Lower attachment point released? Rear window unzipped? You will have to experiment with your hood. Definitely rainx worked for me. Needs reapplying frequently - will not last more than a few weeks at most. Having one of these in the car to deal with the inevitable misting helps Amazon.com: Evelots 2 Pack Windshield Defogger-Mirror/Window Cleaner-No Chemical-No Scratch : Automotive
jbcollier
Darn. The Bimmer World kit minimum width is 34" and the Seven clocks in at 31".

jbcollier
The add on kits are ok for a rear window but a bit too in-your-face for a front:
