Detroiter Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Hi, looking to replace my current chromed heat shield with a black version. Not too confident of painting / coating the existing one so figured buy new. I found something from caterham uk (says rover version but sure it could cover most 6” exhausts?). Reasonably priced however shipping is crazy. Does anyone know of stateside options?
Vovchandr Posted April 4 Posted April 4 No stateside options as far as I know, but dealers might have something in stock. Be careful as they come in different lengths. Ask me how I found out. Powder/ceramic coat is a reasonable option and what I've been doing. Theres a one off carbon fiber one I've seen in Japan and I was hoping either they would make more or somebody stateside would want to make one.
MV8 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 I can see it starts as flat sheet, punched, then curved. I'm guessing the gauge is .050-.090". The slots look nice but reduce the effectiveness. The easiest way is to split a 3-4 inch od exhaust pipe, spread, de burr and radius the edges, then bend one inch wide end cuts to form the stand offs that will attach the shield to the pipe. Spot weld the stand offs to the shield. You can use 304 stainless, bare, or aluminized pipe, then have it ceramic powder coated. Hose clamp moujting won't stay tight cold so you may want to key the shield to the pipe with a tab welded on the pipe or locate with tension springs. 1
