New to forum and have a question

Hello all,

I am new to this forum, but not to British sports cars; owning an Alpine to Sprite to MGB GT to now a 1976 TR6 unrestored survivor with 30,100 original miles.

My question: is the Lotus Seven Series 4 looked somewhat down in the Seven crowd? I have heard this because it is significanty different than the Series 3 that Caterham continues? I had a friend when in high school who's dad bought one of the first Caterham Series 4 with the Twin Cam and let me tell you it was a blast; it still had the Lotus badges and I know that Caterham acquired the rights in 1973 and the Seven my friend had was purchased in '72 or '73.

Anyway, I am looking for a Seven and would like an original Lotus and series 4s come along every so often and anything older is very rare.

Thanks -- Steve

Steve- While the S4 is definitely unique in appearance, the folks I've met (and there were over 100 owners and friends at the 7-7-7 meet) were totally into the two well-turned outS4s that came (Scott N and Ken G.).

If anything, the S4s do have that that added cachet of being original Lotus cars. Also, if you haven't already guessed, this forum and the club behind it are fairly "anti-snob" and marque (and series :D ) inclusive. -Al

The Series 4 has what I have always felt is a distinctly 70's look to it. IMHO, the series 4 looks dated while the Series 3 has a classic look that will continue to be appreciated for years to come. With that said, I still wouldn't kick a Series 4 out of the garage for snoring.

I had not seen a series 4 'in the flesh' until 7/7/7 and while agreeing with the 70's comment, I thought they looked fantastic.

Any excuse to revisit that weekend, so here's a few pix...

Four also can have a top. Though good luck finding a factory top, as i think only 10 had it.

I would love to see a video of someone gitting in and out of the car with the top on. :D

Shouldn't be any different than with a soft top and side curtains, the opening looks to be about the same size. It will just hurt more if you smack your head on the roof when getting in.

Big as I am, I can get in and out with the full weather gear installed almost as easily as I can without it.

Another Steve T... this could get confusing :D

For more pix, try the obvious - google series IV Lotus Seven. Might also find some more from our weekend on the Zee photo and Killboy sites (enter the 07/07/07 dates). When I have a mo - next week probably - I can go thro some of my old UK 'Low Flying' mags, see if I can find some more.
