Seven with an aero nose?

D/E mod have rules stipulating that the overal outline/silloette of the vehicle can not changed. Mike D and Tom can do a better job of describing it. and the use of spoilers/certain aero aids.:banghead:

Might not work for branded sevens, but shouldn't be a problem with homebuilts.

Would areo play that much of a role in AutoX? I would think that you would have to be doing over 120 for the areo to be much of an advantage. From the Autox that I have been to granted which is very few looks like speeds were not more 60 maybe 70 tops. It would seem that the aero would be much more beneficial on tracks where you have long straights and reach higher speeds for longer time. Am I looking at this wrong?

Aero on a Seven is good, in the US, for track days and possibly NASA events. SCCA, the 900# gorilla, ONLY recognizes the Lotus 7 and the Caterham for club (road) racing.

You're right, autocrossing is limited to 60ish mph and aero is not very effective and wings are definitely not allowed.

HOWEVER....

I would LOOOOVE to have an aero body for my Seven. It would be a killer for trackdays, Run & Gun and runs down to the ice cream store with Barbie!!!(not that I don't get enough questions about my Ultralite as it is)

PSSST, it might be nice to have for One Lap of America also!

I believe you are right, unless HUGE wings are involved. I was thinking more for the track.

I am not an engineer, matter of fact im not that good with math. But, when we discussed this on locostusa, the wings on an A-mod car produce 300lbs of down force at 60 mph. Those wings however, are huge! But, someone with the right understanding of areodynamics and the right design programs could probably desing some functional wings-fenders. Doesnt the CSR have small winglets of something built into its fenders?

Anyone interested in aero mods for the Seven should take a long hard look at the development that went on in Clubmans racing.

Here's a few examples.

The Gryphons, Mallocks, and such have taken aerodynamics about as far as one can go with a Seven type chassis.

Wow! what a great link! Thanks.

I guess alot of people are in search of better aero. Very cool.

From Bruce's link (car belongs to Matthew Slinn)

There are alot of interesting variations on that page. A must see.

I agree there is defenitely are uses for aero for the 7. Chuck we have discussed that for the last two years. It just seemed that the discussion had mostly AutoX tone to it. I think that aero for higher speed used would be very benificial ie Run and Gun the Texas mile and One lap. We were looking at the wing that Donkervort has been using and hope to get that fabricated before 1 lap.

That car looks to be one of the last Mallock U2 front engined clubmans, a MK31. I understand that Richard Mallock has reintroduced a front engined car called the MK 35 that looks strikingly similar.
