slngsht Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 From talking to Joe W, and a couple of Caterham owners, it seems like the best setup for autocross is 10" wide rims. For those of you who have them, what size rim, brand, and tires do you recommend? I want something that's street legal. Also, 10" wide rims don't fit in the stock Rotus fenders, do they? This is important to me, because if they don't, I may hold off on body work on the car until the 10" rims are accommodated. My car already needs a new nose (it has the one with the spoiler, but needs the nose without the spoiler with larger radiator openning to keep the V8 cool), and may need a new hood if I decide to not keep the olds V8 (therefore won't need the current hole in the middle of the hood). So, if the fenders will need modding too, I might as well save all the body work till later. Thoughts?
Old Yellow Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 They stick out a little. Dennis has molds for wider fenders - not cheap though. As far as the fronts about all you can do is put motorcycle type fenders on it. I think he has molds for these also but they probably aren't wide enough. If you are going to auto-x it I wouldn't do much to it as the rocks etc that the tires kick up put dings in the fiberglass. I have a number of them on the edges of my fenders. The nose could probably be reworked to get rid of the spoiler. a replacement again probably wouldn't be cheap but might not be anymore that having someone rework the old one. You can split the fenders and add a section it. We just did this on a Locost and put widened motorcycle type fenders on the front.
slngsht Posted July 3, 2005 Author Posted July 3, 2005 So, did you say you have 13X10 wheels or 15X10? Also, do they offer R compound street tires for the size you use? I think I'm going to hold off painting the car for time being... too many changes coming
