drew...
Based on past experience with autocrossing and SCCA showroom stock racing the car would be covered to and from the track but any damage on-track is definitely out of your pocket
sporqster
My Locost has a 'hand written' policy with Allstate, which is where I have all my other cars & house. (All the Floridians gasp). Knock on wood, I've had no problem with them... but I've been lucky enough to not have to file a significant claim. Liability and Collision w/ $500 deductible and $10,000 agreed value for under $500/yr. (I'd be ticked to have to take a $10k check in exchange for Odie, but that is all the 'cash' I have tied up in her.)
Mondo
The above won't cover track use.... most have a clause specifying no competitive events (doubt trackdays are covered). I don't know of any insurance for track events.... imagine it would be pretty high though it's only for 1 day. I've always wondered if anyone towed the wrecked car out to some rural road and then called in the accident;)
athens7
Lowflying magazine (Lotus 7 owners club) lists several UK insurance carriers that offer track day insurance. I will attempt to reach out to them and see if any similar coverage is available to US drivers.

scannon
I've always wondered if anyone towed the wrecked car out to some rural road and then called in the accident;) Its been done many times. I read about a fellow in the NE who did it twice, got caught the second time, they went back and investigated the first one and got him on that one as well. He lost the car and went to jail. Mondo
Yeah, shame on those guys thinking they can do something that serious and get away with it again and again... that's why I'd only murder 1 wife...
slomove
IIRC in the latest Hagerty Policy (in California, that is...) they specifically excluded ANYTHING happening on a racetrack including the paddock. Only if parked in the spectator lot the car is covered.
Kitcat
My State Farm policy excludes wheel to wheel racing. When a friend wrecked my Miata at an auto-X a few years back, they paid for everything. I was totally honest about how it happened. I recently read my policy and, again, it seems to exclude competitive events only. Track days are not competitive. BirkinBernie
I use a local agency that writes collector car policies in Texas. In 2005 I had a fire in the car that damaged the boot, tonneau, boot cover, seats etc. It was a real mess, and happened the day before I was to leave on the 3 1/2 week USA 2005 Tour to San Francisco. Anyway, the insurance company's response was outstanding. With the help of friends, I was able to get the car fixed and on the road in two days, and when I got back the insurance company took VERY good care of me and settled the claim very much to my satisfaction. The policy has a 3000 mile/year cap but I rarely get close to that. But they will write a rider to extend that for a nominal fee. They covered my usual year, plus the 4000 miles I drove on the Tour. It also has the usual collector car rules where you cannot use it for commuting to work, it has to be stored in a garage, etc. And it is an agreed value policy. It is the "Smith Insurance Agency", run by Wally Smith. You can reach him at 1-888-465-3467. They won't cover you while you are on a race track, but my experience has been very good indeed. breezy7
Saw on the Lotus Talk site about a guy that sells coverage for track days. The price is 3% of the car's value with a 5% deductible.
