southwind25
Speed Racer, the movie starts friday... How many are going to take their se7en's and drive them to the theaters to watch our childhood hero in action? Yeah...i saw the previews too..and have mixed feelings about it all. We have also seen the "new generation" animated comic...((quiet sigh)) The movie will never meet our imaginations of what the movie should or could be. But..it's one of the things that probably led us to having the se7en we do anyways. So if only to honor and respect the good name of the Racer family, and because we all own our own piece of the Mach 5..we will be going for better or worse. Go Speed racer Go...............:7fume:
Sean
Strange coincidence that you would post this today! In Japanese culture, today, the 5th day of the 5th month, is Boy's Day. Go means 5 in Japanese. And the Racer family is actually the Mifune family. As a kid, I always wondered why a guy named Speed Racer had a "G" on his shirt and a "M" on his helmet... wasn't until much later that I learned his name was really Mifune Go in the original manga and TV series. edit -- Go is his given name, and Mifune is his family name, but the order of names in Japan is opposite that of Western culture. southwind25
We knew about the given name of "GO"...but we didnt know the last name was MiFune even though we realized the helmet, and car emblem was an "M"... Blue sky drive in in wadsworth ohio will be playing speed racer friday night...we will be there in the se7en..front row center.
sporqster
The wife was teasing me that I had a complete Speed Racer costume in my wardrobe without shopping - white pants, blue polo with the white collar, club helmet - dared me to wear it all day today. I can't pass up a dare like that. GO SPEED GO!!!!

Dave was asking him some car guy questions and it looked like he knew next to nothing about cars and racing. Skip
sporqster
As if a 7 doesn't attract enough attention already, try cruising to lunch wearing a white club racing helmet with an "M" on the front of it. Kids everywhere point and wave. People roll down their windows to yell Go Speed Go! Wow what a little hype will do! now I'm inspired to build a Mach 5 - like this one: http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=6466 Is that for REAL?!?!? 1700 HP?!? Man, the Mach 5 makes even Mazda's car seem downright pedestrian.
