Locost - Lotus Seven Clone

I am selling my Locost autocross racecar, I am building a D-Prepared Miata, so it needs to go. It was originally built by Gene Young, but came with much of the bodywork and mounts removed. I've since built a new rear subframe and reattached all the bodywork and raised the column and shifter for a larger driver. The AIM digital dash in some of the photos is not included. New tires arrive next week and if I still have the car in late July, I'll run the Houston Divisional on them.

I am asking $7500.00.

Lots of spare parts are included, carbs, electrics, gears, additional rear axle, original bike gauges, factory manual for the bike, CAD drawings, suspension drawings, receipts, ect. One of the reasons I bought this car was the brilliant suspension. The front arms can be adjusted without removing anything or even raising the car. The rear has extremely low roll center and the combo and works brilliantly for autocross.

Originally finished in 2003, modified continually since.

Standard “Book” sized chassis

Right hand drive

Paddle shift 6 speed sequential gearbox

13”X10” Diamond racing wheels

20”X9”X13” Hoosier slicks

20”X9”X13” Hoosier rains tires, with wheels

Tilton dual master cylinder racing pedals

Current weight with all the bodywork back on is approx. 940lbs.

Rear suspension

1st. gen Mazda Rx-7 axle with LSD

Adjustable three link, with Watts link

Double adjustable coilover shocks

Wilwood Dynalight single calipers

Front suspension

Fiero spindles.

Fully adjustable tubular control arms

Wilwood Dynalight single calipers

Woodward custom racing rack and pinion, with changeable ratios

Inboard double adjustable coilover shocks

Engine

1993 Honda CBR1000f

Custom car header

Pod air filters

Loud and less loud mufflers

The reason the photos are all hosted on usa7s is because there are SO many clever ideas in the design of this car. I wish I had the cash to take it off your hands right now.

For anyone wanting to design a car from scratch, these photos are a great resource. Alot of very neat ideas here.

I wonder if my wife will kick me out this time :leaving:

Thanks for the compliment. It's been a great car to compete in the last year, but I recently moved and don't have room for all my cars. I've got a half completed D-Prepared Miata and a Lotus Europa that's destined to become an X-Prepared car. I hope folks make use of those photos in their own builds. Gene's designs and choice of parts was one of the reasons I bought it in the first place.

Did I mention that fresh tires go on next week?

I emailed my wife the link to this thread with :leaving: as the subject.

She's at work... phone rings like 10 seconds later. She is very worried I think. She's like "I'm busy, what's the "leaving" about?"

considering my seven in in bare frame form, and my other toy car is parked outside because there is no room in the garage, I think it's best I sit this one out...

gotta know when to hold 'em... when to fold 'em

I'm sure it is a great car, but the backgrounds in these photos made me chuckle.

The first has only one cone in the shot, and it is laying on its side. :)

In the second shot, the car appears to be EATING a cone! (with half of the others knocked over!) :D

And the third shot... well, it appears that cone from the second shot has been digested, and is now being expelled!

I don't know Jon (Boxologist), but these photos made me think of his sig!

:jonautox:

Thanks for the laugh!

Yeah, I occasionally hit cones!

Those photos were from the SCCA Dallas National Tour a couple months ago. I tore my ACL two weeks before the event, I walked the course once - on crutches. Plus, I was on 50+ run tires. And that run, the only one I have photos of, was worse that the photos look. I think it was a three-cone run.

Give me some more time. I can come up with some more excuses!

I'll have it in San Antonio at San Antonio Raceway on July 13th.

Next event will be in South East Houston at Gulf Greyhound Park for the Houston-South West Divisonal on July 19-21.

I'll have fresh tires on it and can offer test drives at the San Antonio event, or a co-driver arrangement at the Houston event.

Last minute change of plans regarding this weekend. I won't be in San Antonio. I'll be in Ft Worth at a Texas Region Event on July 13th. This will be at the Texas Motor Speedway Bus Lot. http://www.autocross.com/tr/modules/content/index.php?id=17

Co-drives or test runs are still available despite the change of location.

Hey! Isn't that Gene Young's old car?!? I drove that car once!

I can vouch for it - BLAST to drive.... (not all that CF is legit though ;-))

Yep, it's Gene Young's old car. And the only piece of carbon fiber on the car is the top of the pedal box. Apparently it was the first piece of custom carbon Gene vacuum bagged.

I can't believe it's still available

Me either. I know there's a small market for a specialized version of an already specialized car, but I figured the low price and well thought out construction details would either make it super attractive to someone on the fence, or someone that wanted something slightly different would be willing to modify it and consider it a cheap base to start their own project.

Is the car still available? Would it be possible for a taller and bigger driver to fit into this car? Cool video, good hand work thru the cones!

Not sure if modernbeat has sold it yet, but I'll tell you that he's a tall guy with normal proportions.

I think that the car is still available...
