Robert O. Urfer
I must say that I am jealous. I have sold mine only because I lost my job at the end of the year and have had to live off of my toy money per my wifes rules. If I can find something soon I will be back in the game sooner than later. I am starting to have major withdrawl. My Merkur XR4TI just doesn't do it for me like a 7 does.:7rain:
locost7018
Robert, the XR4TI makes a great donor. Just find a wall to run into, and say " Honey, I wrecked the car today" . Russ

MHKflyer52
Any pictures? I'm 50/50 on black right now. Hay Mazda, Black shows every speck of dust and dirt plus any imperfections in the body work...(ripples, dents, waves, etc.) also low visibility at times like at night for those stealth drives without lights.. :jester: you know when the local PD is looking for that little car that just went by at close to the speed of sound and then disappeared around a corrner.
slngsht
I should just skip the body work... Atom wannabe

solder_guy
Last week we discovered that my Rack and Pinion was worn .. so I went to the Pullapart Junkyard yesterday and found one on a 1981 Starlet that will fit my car. Got it back to the shop .. took it apart and regreased it and it works perfectly! Sandblasting parts today in preparation for paint. Rob

solder_guy
Don't you have to shorten it? Not necessary at all! I have no idea why they shortened the rack housing .. the rack itself is not shortened. Fits just fine. Rob

Robert O. Urfer
When I sold my car I spoke to guy in California who worked on the rotus project and sai there were a few cars built with a re geared rack that made it steer correctly. He said there were only 2 or hree of them. He believed our cars were the ones. Anything after those cars were "shit". He was interested in buying my car but then balked. slngsht
Rob, do you have pics of the 2 racks side by side? Also, what is the length of your rack?
solder_guy
Rob, do you have pics of the 2 racks side by side? Also, what is the length of your rack? They are mirror images of eachother .. I'll see what I can do tomorrow at the shop .. I read somewhere that the ratio is 21.7":1 (I'm not sure exactly how to interpret this.) solder_guy
They are mirror images of eachother Well there is a problem .. this new R&P has the pinion rolling above the rack .. which means that the pinion will be connecting to the U joint and steering rod at the height of the Rotus suspension rocker arms .. duh! Birkin42
If the pinion is on the wrong side of the rack, I would assume this would reverse the steering unless you swap front to back which side of the front upright the tie rod fastens to. That would be interesting to drive!
