Hi Doug. I sent you my email address and I'm definitely interested. I had started a separate thread in the "Northeast" section but there was no response yet: http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=2941

"Steve T - she's a blast and am already thinking about how to up the horse power!" - It's a slippery slope Paul!! :)

so how difficult was the process of registering your 7's in CT? doesn't sound too bad, depending on who you talk to and their mood.

perhaps more importantly, what about a front license plate? have you mounted one? where? any problems if you have not put on a front plate? sorry for so many questions, but you guys have gone through it before, and i have not.

My registration process was a little more difficult than Paul and Doug, but it's done now.

I had the license plate mounted to the front bumper for the inspection, but the bumper mysteriously fell off on the way home and I never got around to re-mounting it. I've seen plenty of LEO's and even had a stern talking to by one of them, but he never mentioned the lack of a front license plate. I think he was actually surprised that I had all the required paperwork! :)

CT issues two plates, both are required to be displayed. While I don't believe you would ever be stopped solely for not having a front plate, I do know somebody that got stopped for a seat belt violation and "where's your front plate, sir?"....he was fined for both. Why aggrevate the police if you don't have to.

I made a front bracket from polycarbonate sheet, which mounts to the underside of the nose. It's mounted low to remind me that the sump is about 3 inches off the ground. If I hit the license plate the sump is next.

You may want to rethink the no windshield idea. You'll do fine until the first CT police officer sees you..then the trouble begins. Aside from being illegal, have you ever had a stone bounce off your windshield? Stones bouncing off your head are much worse.

Just a thought,

From the CT DMV website:

"WINDSHIELD - Shall be approved Safety Glass, AS-1 certified, and bearing markings stating AS-1. Should be at least 10" vertical with unobstructed view. It must be free of breaks, cracks, pit marks, or discoloration that would impair a driver's vision or create a hazard and not tinted darker than 70% transmissibility. Cracks more than 20% of the width of the windshield or more than 3" from the edge of the windshield, or pit marks 3/4" diameter or larger at the line of sight are cause for rejection. Windshields as low as 7.0" may be allowed on fixed roof vehicles provided that a 1" by 8" strip type, wide-angle viewer is installed at the top of the windshield and sufficient headroom is available. Windshields on open body roadsters may be as low as 7.0" if the top of the windshield is 29" or more above the drivers seat measured 5" forward of the seat back with the seat adjusted to the rearmost and lowermost position."

I would think that at a minimum a couple Brooklands screens should be used with goggles.

With my home made aeroshield I use goggles due to stones down to road dirt from the tires. A little driving with soft tires will start to fill the inside of the car. I drive 100% on paved roads. The factory windshield is a big speed brake. As it cools down here in Ohio I will be reinstalling the speed brake though. I think Ohio's rule is: If there is a windshield, you must have wippers. I'm unsure of the exact rule though.

My mini front plate wing feels like it helps reduce lift at high speed. It could just be hopefull feelings to me.

The issue as I understand it comes down to if you go through the process with a car that has been registered in another state and you register it as a composite. This seems to just need a VIN inspection. I would try that route first, if you are required to get the inspection you're in for the whole DMV experience. If you build it yourself then I think you have to do the inspection.

My front plate is under the front seat waiting for the correct bracket to mount it, officer........
