Hi I have a 1985 Cat 7, I have driven a Westy and a Dutton, but jusy wondered about the pros and cons of all the 7,s out there, anybody experience owning more than one brand? the reason I ask is that I am looking to buy another,7'I love the fit and finish of the Superformance, and the Birkin don't look too shabby either.Anyways be good to hear about the pros and cons of the whole range here, not just from a performance point of view(they are all quick) but parts back up, factory support, helplines etc???)

Thanks

DB

Uh-oh, someone's got the Se7en bug!

DB, I do know of several folks who've owned a few variants over the years...currently, I know that Dale & Sherron have a Stalker and a Birkin sharing a garage.

If you are interested in keeping the Caterham, i'd get one of the more different models just for diversity...to have a Cat and a Birkin (don't hurt me Birkin owners) would be perhaps too similar.

If it's simple enough to register newer cars, I'd get a Westy with a bike engine or WCM with the S2000 drivetrain...again to have something VERY different than your existing Cat but still within the Se7en family.

If you want to trade for something different...perhaps a Superformance owner might want to swap? I know that S1Steve was considering selling his car a while back....

Several years ago I bought a Birkin from a dealer that also sold the Superformance se7en. I never drove the Superformance, but I looked it over and listened to the dealer’s opinions. I liked the curved windshield of the Superformance, and the interior was very nice. Under the bonnet, the Birkin had more round tubing and the Superformance had more square tubing, including the shaft from the steering wheel. The Superformance was a little larger. I forget the numbers, but perhaps 2” wider and 4” longer. In fact, that is why the dealer had the Superformance. He had a customer that was afraid he was too big for a Birkin (he was no more than 6’ or 200 lb—wussy). The Superformance was less aggressive in its suspension and handling, and about $4000 more in 1999 or 2000.

Honestly, I thought that Superformance quit importing se7ens. Birkins are imported by Dick Brink at http://www.texasmotorworks7.com. They have excellent support through Dick and the yahoogroup “birkinowners” http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/birkinowners/. I am not affiliated with any se7en manufacturer. Hope this helps answer part of your question.
