BillMarcy P
Today Bill and I received our Hagerty's renewal for the Caterham. We are surprised to learn that they no longer offer property damage uninsured motorists coverage. They do, however, cover bodily injury uninsured motorists coverage. I appreciate knowing that Bill or I can be repaired, but we're not so happy to find out that we'll have a damaged Caterham on our hands - should we be so unlucky as to be hit by an uninsured motorist. (At the risk of sounding stereotypical, the odds are pretty good in Tennessee...) Interestingly enough, the '74 MGB is fully covered! So, our question for everybody out there is: Who insures your cars? Thanks for any advice. Marcy and Bill Power:7fume:

scannon
Allstate provides full coverage for the Caterham, Lotus Esprit, and Lexus. No limit on mileage. Is this a recent change? I have Allstate for my home and other cars but they only offered to obtain Hagerty insurance for my Caterham. Skip
pksurveyor
Allstate has been covering my Caterham since 2003. I added the 09 Caterham last Thursday. Your agent may not be familiar with the policy. As a matter of fact, I referred another Caterham owner in Dallas and they issued him a policy. MoPho
I have Hagerty on my Lotus and on the Caterham, I just called them and mentioned this, they assured me that I am covered for damage to the car from an uninsured motorist via the Agreed Value coverage. You may want to call them to clarify. I have to say, that they are really wonderful to deal with, I have had to use their protection plan for towing a few times now and it has been fabulous
BillMarcy P
:7frog: Thanks for all the info. We'll call Hagerty and Allstate if we have to. Bill and Marcy
WestTexasS2K
I have State Farm. YOu will most likely have to insure your home and autos with them for them to cover the Caterham, but they provide good full coverage no limits on mileage and it is an agreed value coverage. Mondo
I have State Farm and they got insurance for me thru another insurer https://new.bristolwest.com/bristolwest/Home.aspx It's the same coverage as my other cars (no mileage limits etc..) but I'm going to check with Hagerty as I don't think I drive it enough to justify $130 a month. I do have a million dollar umbrella that requires higher dollar coverage on my cars so that might be why it's so high.
WestTexasS2K
Yeah that seems high. I pay 600 a year. I also have a 1M umbrella coverage. I could be location that make the difference. Car theft isnt an issue here.
Donnie
State Farm covers my '92 Caterham for 1/3 less than my Tacoma and 1/2 of my Acura. Same coverage. My homeowner's insurance is also through State Farm so that my help my cause. I'm also limited to 7500 miles per year ( actual mileage is closer to 750 yearly). BillMarcy P
Yesterday, Bill called Hagerty. They reassured him that we have full coverage. The renewal notice we received has a "selection form" that is already marked that says "I hereby reject 'property damage' uninsured motorists coverage. However, I select 'bodily injury' uninsured motorists coverage at the following optional limit ($500,000 is marked) which does not exceed the 'bodily injury' liability limit on my policy, nor is it less than the state's financial responsibility limit. If you elect this option, make only one selection under either Combined Single Limit or Split Limit." Apparently, Combined Single Limit means we have both bodily injury and property damage coverage even though the above quoted statement says we're rejecting property damage coverage. I guess that's why I am audiologist and not a lawyer/insurange agent. It's Greek to me. By the way our premium for both the 98 Caterham and 74 MGB is $566.00 a year plus $24 for Hagerty Plus Membership Fee - road service, etc. We carry million dollar liability coverage on our other insurance through Travelers. Hagerty has used Encompass to underwrite the policy in the past, but this year they have changed to OneBeacon Insurance Group. Never heard of them, but they are an A. M. Best "A" rated company. We switched all our other coverage from Encompass this past year because their premiums were so much higher. That may have been why Hagerty found another underwritier. Oh well. Not to worry. According to Hagerty we are covered fully for a decent premium. Happy Motoring! Marcy Power:7drive:
MoPho
Oy, I cant even deal with reading boiler plate on insurance forms, etc., makes my eyes roll into the back of my head. :banghead: I had One Beacon insurance on my DD cars back when I lived in Boston, can't say anything about them since I never made a claim, but I can confirm their existence I pay about $600 for the Caterham and $300 for the Lotus via Hagerty with the plus road service which has been excellent
