Ben Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I'm about to buy a 1988 Birkin, but wouold like to know what Birkin Factroy markings I should expect to see. On the top of the pedal box is "BIRKIN" and a six digit serial number hard stamped into the aluminum. The ket engine has it's own number too. Any tips would be appreciated, particuarly to tell the difference between a factory car with a homebuilt.
DB6 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 This is the man to call.Dick Brink., great 7 enthusiast and a really nice guy, he got me parts that evenCaterham did not have. http://www.texasmotorworks7.com/
11Budlite Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Welcome Ben - Not sure how the early cars are ID'd, but my 2001 Birkin is a Build-It-Yourself model that I bought as a demo from a dealer in Florida. On my car it has the chassis number BIY1899 stamped on a plate welded to the upper left diagonal support in the engine bay and on a flat plate below the roll bar in the back (can't remember but I think it's the right side). KiwiBirkin Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 ON my factory built Birkin there were 2 numbers that I used to get Birkin to id the vehical as a factory built one The first number was stamped into the chassis box section on the passenger side at the top of the footwell in the engine bay and looked like this AE9BIRKINT1AB1194 The second number was stamped on the aluminum above the first number MA1 96 3376 3 I emailed both those numbers to Birkin and they supplied me info on my car. I belive that they stamp diffrent numbers for cars that are send out to be built up by people to cars they factory complete. Cheers KiwiBirkin
