solder_guy Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Ok .. I know that the white light box on the back of the Caterham is for backup .. but what about the standalone red light box? What is the requirement for it and when is it switched on? Rob
breezy7 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 It is a rear fog light and on my 06 Caterham is operated by the switch at the far right of the dash. It is designed to be brighter than the regular likes and is probably a requirement for registration in the UK. I left it off my car. Mike
breezy7 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Should be rear "lights" not "likes". Tried to edit but kept being told to log in and would not let me change. Something different with the new forum? Mike
solder_guy Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 So you are driving in the UK and you encounter a patch of fog .. are you required to switch on that red light? and continue to drive as before? I have replaced my crappy Landcruiser light assemblies with new Caterham style lights which lack a reverse white light. But that's ok because my rollbar LEDs will flash when I'm in reverse. Rob
Al N. Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I had that light on my Audis and Volvos, so I think it's a European thing...I like the added security in deep fog. However, I was once pulled over by a trooper who thought that my other brake light was out...I toggled it on and off, and was sent on my way with an apologetic wave and no ticket.

Hank Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 My plan for the rear of my MEGABUSA is to use the rear fog location for the reverse light. Once I get registered for road use in a few weeks I will remove the reverse box and replace the driveshaft assembly with a driveshaft assembly with carrier bearing. I will then swap the reverse light lense for the fog light lense. I'll definitely use it in the fog and a hard rain storm (if I'm caught in one)! Some forms of racing (professional mind you) require a blinking light in the rear during rain. The hole for the rear fog (reverse light until after road certification) is going to be where the 3 holes are next to my passenger side brake light shown here: http://hanksmegabusa.com/images/020509/05.jpg
scannon Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Hank, Nice driver side door on your Megabusa, how did you get that to fit?
