Shipping a Seven from Florida to California

I want to ship a seven from Florida to California. Anyone have experience with auto transporters. I’ve check with several brokers and the prices are all over the map. Should I ship open or enclosed trailer? What questions should I be asking before I place the order?

I shipped an Exige from Florida to Colorado last summer. I used GL Enterprise LLC to ship it covered. I used them based on price and reviews. There were very good and would use them again (info@gandlenterprisellc.com - Fred P was my contact person and I think is the guy who deals with most everyone). I wouldn't advise shipping it uncovered if has to go through mountain passes - it will be delivered a mess.

 

From what I have heard recently from some I work with is that auto shipping is pretty cheap right now.

Ditto on enclosed trailer ... I had my seven shipped from WV to Atlanta about 2 years ago for $550.

What those guys said. Enclosed transport is the *only* way to ship a car of any value.

 

Generally speaking, $1 per mile is a good guess at the cost. If you pay less than that, the 'shipper' likely won't have insurance.

I think you will find those figures were good a year ago, it is running quite a bit less right now, partic if it is a long run, ie 2000 miles plus.

Just shipped a car from Blaine Washington to Ventura Calif for $650 in an enclosed car carrier. Door to Door service. For some reason the driver said to go north is actually more expensive than coming south and he only runns the west coast.

Will there be a car above yours? What if it leaks oil, etc? Ask the shipper how that is handled.

I paid $1800 to have the Seven shipped, enclosed trailer, from NJ, to Los Angeles last June, but that was when gas prices were near the peak and truckers were crying. It was arranged through Bluestar (http://www.bluestarautomovers.com) which seems to be just a locating service as they ultimately farmed out the work to Plycon (http://www.plycongroup.com/services-8.html)

 

My only complaint was that there was a little miscommunication about when they were going to pick the car up from Al, but it all worked out. Car showed up on time and undamaged.

 

Here is the car leaving Al's possession, as you can see the upper level has a complete floor, so leaking oil from cars above would not be an issue.

Car was delivered to their hub center in LA, and transferred to a smaller carrier for delivery in my neighborhood
