slngsht Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Here he is with my brother watching over his shoulder. So far he can hit the target sheet from 20 yards out. No bullseyes, but shot 3 out of last 10 were within 4" of bullseye
MHKflyer52 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Nice compound bow he has their.....good stance and form from what I can see for a beginner. Boy when I was a kid about his age I was given a recurve bow and told that when I could string it I could then go out and then shoot it with supervision until I could hit what I aimed at of course that was quite a while ago and a recurve bow was the hot ticket of the time......times sure have changed since then....and I most likely could not hit the side of a barn today...
locost7018 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I've been a bow hunter for 25 years. I will definatly give him more self control. Is he wanting to hunt or do target shooting? Russ
slngsht Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 He has mentioned hunting, but at this point is just super excited about target practice. I don't hunt, but both my brothers are avid hunters. I told him the day he is ready to skin and gut his victim, he's ready to hunt. If he's expecting to shoot something and have someone else do the dirty work, that's a no-go. He loves nature and is not afraid of animals, insects, etc... not sure how he would handle a wounded animal, or having to clean one up.
locost7018 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Blood, gore, and guts have turned off more that one would be hunter. You ought to see if there are any archery shoots around so you can take him to watch. Those guys and gals are amazing to watch. Wish my 15 yr old would get interested. Sigh!!! Russ
