slngsht
What I find more impressive than the recovery is how quickly he punches the go pedal and puts it all behind him like nothing happened.
MoPho
Somebody made an error in his programming that day That was not really a big deal, heck, I've been in a rally car in a far bigger oops than that (and the fact that the car was on fire added to the excitement) Not a big fan of Loeb, look forward to his retirement
Mondo
I felt the biggest thing that kept me out of the expert class in motocross was I couldn't recover from getting out of shape and back on the gas like the them. Those fractions of time add up. You can tell the pros just by listening to the throttle. Don't know anything about Loeb or other drivers but would love to go for a ride... it amazes me how they master the slide around corners, doesn't seem to matter whether its tarmac or dirt. MoPho
Loeb/Citroen has pretty much dominated WRC for the past 5+ years, the only way he doesn't win is IF... IF, he makes a mistake, which he very rarely does (hence the "error in his programming" comment). This and the fact that the cars have so much technology in them now, they have much more grip and don't slide as much as in the past (they tend to take a racing line now instead of sliding) has made the sport not as fun to watch anymore. I shot rally professionally for about 8 years (and co-drove a few times), travelled all over for it. I photographed Loeb in Spain for a magazine article and he didn't give me all his attention and was the least friendly of all the WRC drivers I have done portraits of. I am sure he is a nice guy, but that and I don't like seeing someone dominate like he does is the reason I don't root for him Riding in one of those rally cars is just awesome and quite disconcerting since you sit really low and back in the car, you can't really see out the window. Despite the sliding around, you'd be amazed at how much grip there is on gravel. The Caterham is probably the only car I've been in that is similar in it's visceral experience, the acceleration is about the same (a WRC car does 0-60 in about 3.8s), the intensity, and the noise of gravel hitting the bottom of the car reminds me of the rally cars. This is a really great in car vid
pi7ot
Being an Ex Olympic gymnast evidently has a relevant bearing on motorsports I remember when he appeared in a WRC car and I thought...Pffft, what's the pretty boy gonna do? After watching him on tarmac...woooah! I was a fan. I really miss Richard Burns though m
Mondo
Yeah, never fun watching someone run away with it. I liked when the TV guys would overlay the cars on the road (from helicopter view) and you could see where one car was faster than the other, pretty neat how they did that. Also remember them driving in fog once and relying on their co-driver's notes, it was the closest thing to driving by Braile;)
Kitcat
To me the most amazing thing abt the video was the co-pilot reading his notes (and not barfing), the pedestrians right on the track(Plz kill me, no, kill me!) and the total absence of any safety considerations on course (trees everywhere, etc.). The driving wasn't bad either.
