Quick Release Steering Wheel

Recommended Posts

Which of you have a quick release hub for your steering wheel which makes it removable for easy in/out of the seat?

Sparco makes one: SPA-015R99GN $329.

I'm just starting to look .. so any suggestions welcome!

Now I see that there are many on eBay for cheap. Which one for the Rotus? I see that my steering wheel (Chassis #14) has 6 screws .. and many of the adapters on eBay accept for 6 screw wheels. And these hubs will put the steering wheel 2.25" closer to your body. Will this be a problem?

2.5" is alot, but i think it's doable. Mine has a little black spacer that is used for separating the wheel from the dash, at that is about 2.5", so i suppose the adaptor wouldn't result in a bigger gap.

What does Dennis recommend?

Since Dennis installed a Grant steering wheel on my car I installed a Grant quick release system. I see it is still available from Grant for $193.51 plus $17.70 for a storage bag. See >http://www.grantproducts.com/default.html for details. It has functioned flawlessly for me for some 10 years.                      Regards, Red Baron

I got my Grant Steering wheel (Formula GT Signature 13") in the mail today .. with my Grant Quick Release Security System setup .. and Grant to Toyota adapter kit. Should be about the same reach.

My Rotus steering spindle is standard Toyota .. so Grant kit # 3593 Standard Installation/Horn Kit is what is required.

I used a horn pin from a mid '80s Corolla to establish the horn connection to the conductor plate on the kit.

Now I have to wire the horn relay to make it work with the horn button which grounds the circuit.

Since mine is a scratch built I am going to use a tilt column.

Not as cool as a removable steering wheel! Plus the wheel makes a fashionable rapper accessory when worn from a chain around the neck! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/lol.gif
