andrew7
I want to upgrade wheels and tires for my 7 and I'd like to go to 13". I found a set of wheels but tires are harder to find. I currently have 14" alum wheels that weigh 17# and 195/60/14 at 18# and they will last a life time as treadwear is 500! I would like a tire that can be street driven and autox. My mileage might only be 1000 miles/year. The tires and sizes (185/60/13) I've looked at like the ACB10's seem to fit the bill, but are around $150 each. That's more money than I want to spend to experiment with. Most companies are not handling 13" ,no thanks to rappers and their 30" wheels. Hoosiers has the size but are almost slicks and same prices. Anyone have some ideas or should I just start saving for Avons.

slngsht
I'm running Toyo Proxes RA1's... Pretty good tires in IMO, but I haven't run the Avons They offer 2 13" sizes: 205/60R13 86V 185/60R13 80V Treadwear rating is 100.
xflow7
13" performance tire options are pretty limited on this side of the pond. The ones I'm aware of are: Avon ACB10 Avon CR500 Proxes RA/1 Yoko A032R Kumho Ecsta V70A Kumho Victoracer V700 The big hitch is the relatively limited selection of widths/aspect ratios available among these. I'd really like to stick with a 70 series tire for ground clearance on road use since I don't need the tread width for my modest HP, but damned if you can find any decent 70 series 13" tires. The 185/70R13 Yokohama A021 would be perfect but Yoko doesn't officially import the A021 at all. AIM Tire (www.aimtire.com) used to carry Yoko A048's and A021's in useful sizes for a while for (I think) the Spec Racer Ford crowd, but I think maybe SRF has changed tires and they're getting rid of the last of their stock. On their website they're listing A048 185/60R13 at $75.00 while supplies last. I haven't contacted them to see how many they have and/or if they'd sell them for something other than SRF (since I'm not sure that size is DOT approved here) but that might be an option. I emailed Yokohama USA a while back asking about bringing the A021 to this country more widely as many BlatChatters in the UK rave about it as a fast road tire, but never got any response. Boxologist
i expect to go to a set of 13" caterham 10 spokes and CR500 for the next set. i think those are r500 stock set and the 15 is the r300 set. 13" tyres are near impossible to source in the USA, so i will pony up and buy a full set from caterham. roll a 7
I have used acb 10s, CR 500s, Kumho ecsta V700s and Kumho V710s. The ACB 10s are lightest. None hold a candle to the Kumho V710s for performance, in my view. The 710s are not a very good street tire, but awesome for autocross/track use. Most 7 owners end up with 2-3 sets of tires and rims to cover their various needs!!! 3 in my case; and if I could slip a 4th past my bride..... R1 Seven
Hey Andrew, There may be a couple of more alternatives out there. Hankook makes a DOT R-compound tire that is affordable. There is a sale going on with last year's model and they have your size. $75 per tire. I just ordered a set for my car (205/60-13 rear and 185/60-13 fronts) Looks like there is only one set left in the size that you want. The web page is wrong in listing the C50 compound...they only have the C30 compound wich is a little harder. I have heard pretty good things about these tires, so I figured that for the price, I would give them a try. http://www.frisbyracetire.com/z211sale.html Also, I think that Sumitomo makes some street tires in 13" that are not skinny econobox tires for pretty cheap, but that may not be what you want.
