Hank Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/ Read about the Mclaren snorkel. Amazing feat of engineering! I don't think it'll be banned anytime soon as the only moving part is one of the driver's feet. http://scarbsf1.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/snorkel.jpg
TheDingo8MyBaby Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 The idea of stalling a wing has been around for a while. I'm not sure that I'd call what McLaren did a technical achievement or simply finding a loophole in the rules. I have a feeling it will be banned eventually. The flexible wing elements (which did the same thing) had their run and now they're banned.
S1Steve Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 I am so happy that I am not the only F1 nut. Jim Hall did the same thing back in the 60's, with his can-am car. flaten( if thats a word) out the wing when going foward, drop the wing and get downforce in the turns. I am sure the F1 car's works alot better.I think it is illegal, but FIA says it's ok. The rules state no movable wing, and this one moves. Love it !!!!!!
rnr Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 The rules state no movable wing, and this one moves. There are no moving parts apart from the driver, the FIA had no choice but to allow it. The F1 press is saying that they may ban it for next year though.
