Checked my gas mileage in the Busa

Recommended Posts

I drove to the Lakefront in New Orleans a few weekends ago for a large car meet put on by the local ricers. I filled the Megabusa up (11 gallons) and the caravan I drove down with cruised at 85-90 mph from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. We drove roughly the same speeds coming back home. When I topped the tank off later that evening I calculated out to be 22.17 mpg. This next tank I will be trying my best to drive like a paw paw. I think I can get 30+ out of it. I was expecting much less from a car with the aerodynamics of a brick.

Hank were you not driving in a line of cars.....it’s that slip stream that was helping.....

No seriously that is good gas mileage for those speeds I would believe...30mpg should be easy at 65 mph but who really cares about gas mileage when driving a 7 for fun.

LAME!

Hank, I am sorry but you can not talk about gas mileage and your car. This is a major 7 sin and now you will have a mechanical problem with your 7.

 I'd love to do that, but then I can't brag about this:

Frankn7 is 700 lbs heavier (i forget how much hank's car weighs)

>5X the engine displacement

>2X the HP

15" wide air dams (otherwise known as rear fenders)

big old steamrollers

lumpy cam with bigger than stock overlap

Gets 28 MPG cruising at 80.

I was not in their slipstream because they were weaving in and out of traffic. I kept my distance to make sure I didn't become a statistic.

I'm guessing at those speeds the Megabusa was turning 8k to 9k rpm; which I would say is outside of 'economy' range. My Blackbird powered seven has similar gearing and gets about the same mileage - but that's not the point is it.

For those of us who tour in their se7ens it is quite valuable to know your mileage - because this gives you a range. I know some owners who are only getting 12mpg, which limits their range considerably. In turn, this makes the job of planning a tour tricky, because you have to make sure there is not too much distance between fuel locations (this can be tough in some spots!).

Hank, let us know how your next trip turns out. All of our cars fuel consumption goes way up with aggressive driving (especially on the track) but I would guess that you're going to easily get up to 25mpg. FWIW, my 2.0 duratec get's ~30 when touring.
