twobone Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I'm thinking Castrol GTX What do your other ford crossflow guys use?
BrunnyS1 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 GTX is fine, I ran it for years in my XFlows, it is still prob the main choice and what it has been fed so far. Who said "I love the smell of burning GTX in the morning" ?
twobone Posted August 14, 2010 Author Posted August 14, 2010 I think she will need a steady diet. She seems to be burning off a fair bit. Is that fairly normal? I'm guessing a litre every 800 miles
BrunnyS1 Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 What viscosity did you run? I have run GTX 20/50 and 10/40; other pop choices are 20/50 in Valvoline or Millers, BP visco static 10/40 and Esso Superlube 10/30, I had a Burton tuned xflow and ran that on valvoline racing Vr1 20/50. Hope this helps
Dave W Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Ditto on Valvoline racing VR1 20/50, if your engine has an aftermarket cam. Made sure the oil being used has the ZDDP additives. Also most of the oils with a diesel rating will have ZDDP. Dave W

Kitcat Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Chris T at Sevens and Elans recommends Brad Penn 20-50, which I am using now. I have mostly used Mobile 1 and other synthetics, ditto prior owner. Despite much nay-saying, at 26K miles, the engine has been fine w/them. I think as long as you have the requisite ZDDP and stay in the weight ranges mentioned above, its a matter of personal preference, price, etc.
