rss
Hello, I'm hoping that some of you Ultralite owners out there can help me. My 2006 has an issue with the Autometer speedometer -- a voltage drop across the speedometer triggers a vss code and prevents v-tec from engaging. Taking the speedometer out of the loop solves the v-tec problem. It's my understanding that this is a known problem with the early ultralites, and that a common solution is to send a signal from a separate magnetic pulse sensor to the speedometer, and run the vss wire directly to the ecu. Can anyone out there tell me exactly what kind of sensor will work with the autometer gauge, and how it is hooked up? Thanks, Scott
Mondo
The page below has some parts that look like they will work http://www.pacificcustoms.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PC&Product_Code=AC957800&Category_Code= Good Luck Edited September 19, 2010 by Mondo
powderbrake
My Ultralite kit came with an unidentified sensor. I believe it to be the sensor from the Subaru antilock brake system, but that's a guess. I believe almost anything that will provide a pulse will work. I epoxyed a single magnet to the inner CV joint shell, and ran one wire to the speedo, and the other wire to the ground point on the back of the engine block. It works perfectly. You could put two or more magnets on if you wish, you can then calibrate the speedo per the Autometer directions. The sensor has a magnet in it, and a lump of steel in place of the magnet might work as well. These pics show the installation and the common grounding point I created at the rear of the engine block
WestTexasS2K
powerbrake yours is the antilock brake sensor front the Subaru. RSS here is a link to some sensors that should work and are reasonable price. http://store.phoenixamerica.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=P1150 http://www.spectecsensors.com/ all you need to do is make a small L bnracket that attaches to the diff and then put a strong magnet on the CV joint like Jerry has pictured above. Most sensors have two wires. 1 will go to ground the other goes to the sensor. Then just follow the Autometer calbration procedure. One magnet should be sufficient for the speedo work well. rss
Mondo, Powderbrake and WestTexas, Thanks for the all great info! And great pics, Jerry. I really appreciate all the help! Looks like a piece of cake. Hopefully my ecu will behave from now on...
