Description:

1972 Lotus Caterham Super Seven, This is a Caterham Super Seven Sprint equipped with the DeDion rear axle, a Cosworth BDR engine (170 hp) and a 5 speed gearbox. Due to the extreme low mileage the car presents itself as new. This car was supplied to Moto America Inc, Miami, FL. in September 1993. The Agent was Lebrun Motors Inc. The customer was Heishman BMW Inc. of Arlington, VA.

The car is a Caterham 1600 Sprint De Dion, supplied in kit form, with lhd, clamshell wings, green paintwork, De Dion chassis, and supplied with no engine. U.S. spec cloth bucket seats, Motolita steering wheel, oil cooler kit with adaptor, and basically all US spec standard items, except engine, wheels and tires.

The reason I ask is that it are standing in my garage here in Norway.

I imported it from USA, through Lebrun.

The car looks god and goes very well.

 

I would like to find the one that build the engine, since I do not know what parts that was used when the engine was build.

If I can get to know this maybe I don´t need to open the engine and look.

You have bought yourself a lovely looking seven. Hopefully you are in a coastal part of Norway where you can enjoy it on the magnificent roads around the fjords.

 

I have no links with the car - I found the advertisment by accident on the Hemmings site and (re)posted it here in the case a USA7s member would be interested in purchasing the car.

 

I would make an inquiry of Dave Lebrun and see if he or his friend Tony Vaccaro (Dave knows him) know any more about the previous owners so you can contact that person. However, it was nearly 20 years ago it was constructed so it is likely there are no records today.

Tony is at : tvacc@lotusowners.com. He is the current president of the US Lotus Owners club and very knowledgeable about Caterhams (He has 2 in his garage). If he had some involvement with this car, he is likely to remember it.

Just saw this. I am the one that actually worked on the deal selling it to Jorn. Dave had the car but it was listed on the LOONY site and that is where Jorn saw it. As is my agreement with Dave, I handle the deals on most Caterhams that are on my site. Sold quite a few of them the past year.

 

I am so happy that Jorn likes the car and is satisfied with the purchase. It is tough to buy a car sight unseen from halfway around the world and not have things go amiss. But everything went fine.

 

Just to correct, I am not the head of the US Lotus Owners group. I am the "head" of the NY Lotus Owners group. Now I am not the President of that either at this time, but have been so in the past. But I am the one that organizes everything and does the website. I think I am Vice President or Treasurer right now. We dont put too much into those titles, positions, and all that other "club" BS. We all just concentrate on driving our cars.

Its right that Tony did the deal for Dave. and I can recomend them to everyone that are looking for a car.

And Im very happy with the car.

The reason I ask if any know ho built the engine is that it goes god, but I dont know with what parts it is buildt up of. And that had been Nice to know.

Even if it is many years ago the builder may know or have some notes of it, since BDR engines is not something you build every day.
