Recommended race car alignment shop?

Hey folks,

 

After a very eye opening first track experience at Lime Rock yesterday with a Lotus 7 replica I built, the car is in dire need of getting properly setup so that it's not such a nightmare to putt around the track.

 

Would anyone be able to recommend a shop that is quite reputable and has experience with setting up alignments for racecars?

 

The suspension is 4 coilovers and all inputs are adjusted through heim joints all around...would also be interested in having the car corner weighted at the same time.

 

Much appreciated! The car was quite the handful and very much different than a production car.

TKX in Huntington appears to be the latest flavor in the area. Lynmor Motorsports in huntington may be able to help. I haven't had an alignment done on the 7 because, it's not really fine tunable yet. But i think that will have to change. I'm thinking about buying camber gauge and toe plates because they will get use on the other cars as well.

I'm actually staying in NJ for the next 2 months so that would be fine too...in fact I'd be willing to make more than a couple hour drive for a very good shop.

 

Anyone know anything about Powerslide Motorsports in Jackson, NJ? Seem to specialize in vintage formula cars...considering them as well.

going to barge in here. the owner is always the best shop.-- a level floor and a home made protractor will set camber and caster difference by checking camber at the same turn angle for each side, I measure toe with a string from front to rear or from rear to front for the back. there are other things to consider but the best discription that i have seen in some time is in secondstrike manual for the superformance S1 http://www.secondstrike.com/TechTips.htm it is not hard and what seems right to you might not suit the other person, tip; nearer to a street set-up is easier to drive and then advance to your race set-up.

There is also the Radical dealership on Rt 17 near Mahwah NJ. Blubarisax uses them for his car. They look after more than just Radicals

 

I'm a big fan of Radical on Rt. 17. Ask for Joe and tell him Karl sent you. They corner weighted my car and did a good job.

I'm pretty torn now, hrmf.

 

I'm between the Radical Motorsports place since they service you guys which is always a good sign...going to the Caterham specific shop down in Delaware...and then there is also T&Z Auto which is Dave Deerson (Chief Tech for NASA NE) who is local.

 

I think I'll take a swing over to the Radical and T&Z shops tomorrow to check them out and talk over what I need done.

I personally have used Exoticars in Frenchtown for my old seven. Bruce Bowker uses them as well. Only problem is that they are a long way away compared to the alternatives you are considering.

Bert is the mechanic that did my Cosworth/Sadev install. He is top notch, and willing to figure things out.

Hey guys,

 

Sorry, should have given an update. I decided to go to Dave Deerson at T&Z Auto in South River, NJ. He's the chief tech for NASA racing and after visiting his shop for about 4 hours he without a doubt knows his stuff.

 

I should be dropping the car off early this week to get her all ready for the NJMP track days. Excited to have a managable car :D lol

 

Thank you all again for the excellent suggestions, it made it hard deciding.
