jlumba81 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I've been wanting to get a longer first gear and saw this SIERRA 5 SPEED 2.98:1 1ST GEAR KIT http://www.burtonpower.com/parts-by-category/transmission-clutch-wheels/gearbox-spares/gbt9200.html anyone install it or something like it? Any special tools needed other than snap ring pliers? It looks like a nice alternative to a complete gearkit swap.
westy turbo Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Havent done it as i am on a T5,but i know a guy with T9 and a 250bhp N/A C20XE, and he says its one of the best upgrades in his car!!!
11Budlite Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Jlumba - Check out this write-up on a BGH close ratio gearkit install on a T9: http://my.voyager.net/~quadrant19/Gearbox-upgrade.html This should give you enough info on what tools you need. The kit you're looking to do should be easier since you shouldn't have to machine the case, but I would double check with Burton first. I did the same BGH kit as Cherik and have been very happy with the results. I was able to machine my case with a drill press and a simple tool I made up, info here: http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1046&highlight=trans Other than that, just follow the manual and keep the parts cleaned and organized. Here's a T9 manual: http://www.biggles.net/download/Manual_Type9.pdf
